Job description Work in an exciting and meaningful field teaching children with developmental disabilities. We are seeking a Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired to provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments. Orange-Ulster BOCES provides the foundation and knowledge that enables its students to venture forth in any direction they choose. Students served (K-12) include individuals with significant developmental and intellectual disabilities, social/emotional needs, behavior management needs and/or learning differences. You’ll do this by:
Understanding the needs that will maximize a student's visual functioning through work in/pull-out individual sessions, support with push-in services as appropriate and collaborating with classroom teachers regularly
Serving as the subject matter expert, working directly with identifying, developing, and implementing appropriate instructional strategies, materials, equipment, and environmental factors that will maximize a student's visual functioning
Drafting appropriate annual goals and short-term objectives to present at the annual CSE meeting, evaluating and re-evaluating the short-term objectives on a regular basis
Possessing the critical thinking skills to effectively develop and deliver training and information for special education personnel and parents and the student’s sighted peers in understanding the unique educational needs and learning characteristics of visually impaired students

What you bring to our team:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
Valid teaching credential authorizing specialized services for students with visual impairment required
Experience preparing sequential and meaningful instruction geared to the student’s assessed needs, IEP goals and objectives, functioning, and motivational levels
A personal drive for continuous learning and a desire to develop your skills
This position is temporary and will be available through these dates: 4/8/2024 - 6/26/24Job QualificationsNYS Certification Required
