The system administrator provides support and maintains the endpoint and server infrastructure of the college. They work under the technical direction of the senior systems analyst and director for systems & identity and access management to develop scripts and integrations of the various systems of the college such as Google, Entra ID, Microsoft Graph, identity management, and others. They work at the direction of senior staff with broad technical latitude to ensure reliable and secure foundational servers and services for the college.Summary of Responsibilities

Act as system administrator for multiple servers and services.

Deploy, upgrade, and administer applications, servers, and services.

Ensure infrastructure meets performance, capacity, and uptime requirements.

Manage security of supported services.

Provide integration between supported services.

Provide customer support for services.

Learn and improve skills in related to supported services and operating systems including Oracle Enterprise Linux, Windows Server, Puppet, Entra ID, Powershell, Bash, Azure, Git, JIRA , and others.

Salary: $57,000 – $63,000 commensurate with experience.Flexible hybrid work arrangements may be an option subject to NYS , SUNY , and Geneseo rules, regulations, and policies.Required Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field by time of appointment

Demonstrated analysis and problem-solving skills

Demonstrated ability to grow and learn

Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems involving multiple systems, networking, and services

Excellent communication skills

Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working/teaching environment

Ability to work evenings and weekends on an occasional basis to support critical issues and project upgrades

Preferred Qualifications

Experience providing IT customer support.

Windows Server administration experience.

Experience using scripting languages to automate tasks.

Experience using vendor REST APIs to securely share operational data between systems.

Regularly perform monthly patching of operating systems and appliances.

Handle critical security patching of servers and services as necessary.

Manage appliances and services in line with vendor recommendations and senior systems analyst’s direction.

Manage server monitoring and alerting to provide timely and appropriate alerts to the system teams about the health and remediation of server and service alerts.

Understand how Puppet, Intune, JAMF , and other management tools work and interoperate to manage the systems infrastructure.

Learn and use Git to manage script and infrastructure code.

Function 3: System Support Rotation

Handle Systems Support Duties once every 6 weeks, this involves being the first point of contact for the systems team.

Monitor new HelpDesk requests Server and Endpoint Systems work and assign them to yourself.

Go through any requests Waiting for a response. Document how they are handled if a document does not already exist. Verify existing documents.

Be the first point of escalation for requests to the SES team and determine if you can handle them. If you cannot, be sure to gather additional information and context to pass along to the subject matter expert.

Provide operational support printing, GSuite, Entra ID/Graph.

Handle routine Identity Management functions such as creating and removing accounts.

Deploy new Windows and Linux servers using established procedures.

Function 4: General Requirements and Teams

Follow CIT Policy and Procedures as defined by the Director and CIT Management Team.

Attend CIT department meetings and regularly scheduled functional area meetings.

Post time off to CIT department calendar.

Complete time off and travel requests, etc.

Perform incidental duties associated with day-to-day functions of the offices of Computing & Information Technology, most of which entail front-line interaction with campus computer users, both in person and by telephone.

Resolve computing problems for “walk-in” users.

Answer the telephone and take messages.

Cover for staff absences.

Complete purchase requisitions.

Post, in a timely manner, to the status web page any scheduled changes and down times, outages, and problems when appropriate.

Contribute to publication of technical and informational newsletters, electronic communications, bulletins, and CIT web pages where appropriate.

Contribute to the instruction of training courses for campus computing users and staff where appropriate.

Communicate regularly with colleagues and clients to keep them informed of activities and projects that interest or affect them.

Report regularly to the Director and your area manager on the status of ongoing projects.

Be conscious of CIT’s reputation on campus and work to improve it by effective communication, knowledgeable technical support, and offering new services when appropriate.

Actively participate in CIT strategic planning and assessment processes.

Participate when requested on CIT Project Teams where your expertise is required and/or you have the opportunity to acquire new and relevant skills. Project Team participation may comprise a significant portion of your workload during the life of a given project, and may include specific duties not outlined in this job description. The Director in consultation with other team members will evaluate your work on Project Teams.
