Yes County Albany Street Address 200 Southern Boulevard City Albany State NY Zip Code 12209 Duties Description Under direction of the Chief Engineer, the Director of Engineering Support Services (DESS) is responsible to administer and manage the specialized expertise duties performed by the Design Support Service (DSSB) and Technical Support Services (TSSB) Bureaus (See DSSB and TSSB Duty Descriptions). In addition, the DESS applies technical and managerial expertise to lead unique or priority transportation/architectural projects and performs other technical or administrative tasks as assigned by the Chief Engineer.Strategically plans which opportune grant opportunities the Authority will pursue in context with the alignment of the grant to the principal goals of the agency and the anticipated availability of resources.Develops and leads internal/external stakeholders working groups and overseas consulting services needed to successfully develop individual grants.Oversees development of internal policy, procedures, and practices which Authority working groups must conform with to utilize and operate UAS, including licensing and operation requirements mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration and other governing agencies. Performs or oversees development of technical or engineering studies or analyses that will support future grant applications.Oversees administration of awarded grants, including any applicable reporting requirements for the grant program.Reviews, analyzes, evaluates, and prepares appropriate recommendations relating to engineering and other technical reports submitted to the Chief Engineer by staff engineers, consultants, NYSDOT and other State agencies.Oversees coordination of real property transactions approvals requiring NYSDOT and FHWA approvals due to modification of corridor fee without access boundary limits. Minimum Qualifications Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service allocated to a Grade 27 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the NYS Civil Service Law. Or Provisional Appointment Pending Examination: Current New York State Thruway Authority employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as a Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Transportation) and have a New York State Professional Engineer’s license with current registration. On or before November 4, 2023, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Transportation) and have a New York State Professional Engineer's license with current registration.
