TITLE Hourly Intern IIHOURLY RATE $20 per hourLOCATION New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology. Birth Defects Research Section, Empire State Plaza, Corning Tower, 12th FloorMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates must be either an MPH or an MS Epidemiology student at SUNY Albany’s School of Public Health; AND must have completed at least 24 credits of coursework toward their degree including at least four of the core courses; AND must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or better AND are unable to participate in an internship if on academic probation.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: We are interested in Epidemiology or Biostatistics students who have basic SAS skills. Required coursework includes EPI 514. The student should have a demonstrated interest in maternal and child health. Prior experience with data analysis is preferrable.RESPONSIBILITIES The intern will assist with four main tasks as part of the Birth Defects Research Section at NYSDOH:The student will conduct a literature review related to stillbirth surveillance. Additionally, the student will review case notes within our active surveillance system, assist with coding and organizing data for analysis, and calculate descriptive statistics. Additionally, the student will calculate agreement metrics and evaluate the validity of reported codes for stillbirth. The student will assist in summarizing the results of this work via a written report, tables and/or figures, and a presentation to the NYSDOH Birth Defects Research Section. DETAILS OF EMPLOYMENTPart-time position: 20 hours/week or 40 hours/week for total of 12 weeks over the course of the summer.APPLICATION PROCEDURE Candidates apply through the SPH Internships & Career Services Office, who will send along resumes to the Program for consideration. Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting may not be available.
