Job Title: Forestry Contractor Foreman

Job Type: Full time with some OT, hourly pay

Company: Rio Forestry LLC

Work Location: 70% local to Santa Fe, 30% out of town but may be more heavy towards Santa Fe as time goes on and depending on the candidate

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and qualified foreman to lead our dedicated crew members in providing high quality forestry services across a range of forest types in the Southwest. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in various forestry prescriptions, cutting knowledge, excellent leadership, strong communication skills and a dedication to safety as well as quality. Forest types include pinon/juniper, ponderosa, mixed conifer, bosque, wildland urban interface (WUI).

About the Company:

Rio Forestry LLC is a small forestry and land management company based out of Santa Fe, NM. We help small private land owners manage their lands including trees, grass and flower revegetation, erosion control, create defensible space and occasional landscaping. We also have commercial clients in NM as well as central CO. Other clients include New Mexico State Forestry, Village of Taos Ski Valley, Albuquerque Open Space among other governmental and non governmental organizations.

When working out of town we camp or rent houses depending on the season and location. Winter work the past two years including right now is in the Albuquerque bosque.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership: Manage a team of sawyers, laborers and tree care professionals in executing forestry prescriptions on small private lots up to 40 acres as well as some commercial or public lands

Project Management: Knowledgeable of executing forestry services: thinning, hazardous fuels reduction, high end pruning, slash/materials management, chipping, hazard felling etc. Ensure work quality meets standards of the company as well as the client.

Client Management: Interfacing with clients or liaisons on the project to communicate status, get information and be a link in the chain in command

Training and Development: Train team members on best work practices, handling equipment and materials and safety compliance

Safety Compliance: Ensure job site hazards are minimized and all employees comply with standard basic chainsaw/equipment PPE and safe working practices

Maintain and keep track of tools used amongst crew members

Skills:

-Strong communication and leadership skills

-Highly proficient in problem solving and decision making in dynamic and sometimes stressful environments

-Highly knowledgable in:

-Felling techniques

-Pruning

-Tree identification

-Forestry prescriptions common in the Southwest such as thinning, chipping, lop and scatter, creation of defensible space, noxious weed management

-Powered and hand tool use/maintenance

-Strong driving skills including towing a trailer up to 12,000 lbs and 4x4 use

-Ability to do physically demanding work in strenuous conditions and sometimes inclement weather

-Knowledgeable of forestry equipment such as: Stihl Chainsaws, chippers, skid steers, winches, diesel engines, hydraulic systems etc. Ability to do basic maintenance and basic troubleshooting.

-Strong learner. Job sites can change drastically and we need to adapt to them

Qualifications:

-Current drivers license (non New Mexico licenses will need to be verified for compliance with our insurance company) and a clean driving record

-Cell phone and transportation

-Minimum 5 years of experience in forestry work with at least 1 year as a leadership role

-Professional on the chainsaw ie. Little to no training needed for felling/thinning

Compensation/Benefits:

-$27+/hr with occasional OT

-Sick leave

-Per diem when working in Colorado

-Company Ford F350 and fuel card after training and probationary period

-Best office views

We see the candidate coming in at $27/hr and after sufficient training and comfortability will be issued a Ford F350 with tools as well as a fuel card. Raises will come with experience, proficiency and general development. Ideally this candidate is able to take on more responsibilities within 6-18 months and be at $30/hr. We are looking for someone who wants to grow with the company, is passionate for the quality of our lands and is great to work with.
