The Emergency medical technician (EMT) responds to medicalemergencies and delivers patient care, support, and medical evaluation in acommunity setting, and during transport to the hospital. This care typically includes assessing thepatient, determining the proper emergency care, stabilizing the patient andadministering treatment. EMTs also help with transporting patients safelybetween hospitals and care facilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responds to instructions from emergency medical dispatcherand drives specially equipped emergency vehicle to specified location
Monitors communication equipment to maintain contact withdispatcher
Removes or assists in the removal of victims from the sceneof an accident or catastrophe
Determines the nature and extent of illness or injury, ormagnitude of catastrophe, to establish first aid procedures to be followed orthe need for additional assistance, bases decisions on statements of personsinvolved, the examination of victim or victims, and knowledge of emergencymedical practice
Administers prescribed first-aid treatment at site ofemergency, or in specially equipped vehicle
Applies splints, administration of oxygen, treatment ofminor wounds or abrasions, or administration of artificial resuscitation
Communicates with professional medical personnel atemergency treatment facilities to obtain instructions regarding furthertreatment and to arrange for arrival and hand-off of victims at the facility
Assists treatment center admitting personnel to obtain andrecord information related to victims’ vital statistics and circumstances ofemergency
Maintains vehicle medical and communication equipment andreplenishes first-aid equipment and supplies
May also assist in controlling crowds, protecting valuables,or performing other duties at the scene of a catastrophe
May assist professional medical personnel in emergencytreatment administered at a medical facility
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
Current BLS card. ACLS/PALS per contract requirement.
Certified/Licensed per State Requirement and/or ContractRequirement or Proof of Certification from an approved EMT CertificationProgram.
Driver’s License within the state of accomplished practice.
Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency programwhen applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least 18 years of age
