COMSEC Responsible Officer (CRO) - Systems Administrator III

Position Description: We’re hiring for a COMSEC Responsible Officer (CRO) / System Administrator III to work in Albuquerque, NM in support of the US Air Force Space Mission. In addition to the CRO duties, you’ll also provide information technology subject matter expertise with many facets of systems administration. You’ll have an immediate effect on the warfighting efforts of our nation to maintain U.S. space dominance.

Work Location: Kirtland Air Force Base

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Managing COMSEC material and automated equipment, including maintaining security, from receipt through usage and eventual consumption/destruction
  • The selected candidate will work with alternate and government COMSEC custodians and will assist them in their daily operations
  • Conduct inventories of all equipment handled by hand receipt holders and will support periodic rekey and installation of new devices
  • Update existing local Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), develop/implement new SOPs as needed and brief/de-brief users in and out of the COMSEC program
  • Oversee the execution of security measures called out in the security plan to include timely scans of network resources and software patches
  • Provide effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of production Linux Servers in a VMWare Virtualized Environment
  • Apply DISA STIG compliance controls to secure systems
  • Responsible for daily system monitoring, security, server health, resources and log management of Linux and Windows systems.
  • Troubleshooting and performing root cause analysis. This includes troubleshooting issues with system configurations, backups, files systems, and user access
  • Support RHEL platforms hosting applications, operations and sustainment systems, and ACAS and other security tools
  • Interface with engineers, systems engineers, and subject matter experts in the performance of your duties
  • Troubleshoot hardware, networking, and software problems in multi-node environment
  • Configure and install operating system and application software on bare-metal computers, virtual machines, or containers.
  • Act as on-call support for network issues and data transmittal issues
  • Create and maintain software documentation and updates
  • Be called upon to peer review other software design efforts and concepts within the center
  • Work with a highly technical team to perform evaluation tests
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering and 5+ years of experience; Master's degree and 3+ years of experience. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • 3+ years of experience focused on Linux/UNIX system administration
  • Must have a DoD 8570 Level II Certification (such as the CompTIA Security +, CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, CND, or SSCPy)
  • Must be familiar with NSA/CSS Policy Manual 3-16, Control of Communications Security (COMSEC) Manual
  • Must have recent experience (within the last five years) with at least 3 of the following:
    • Tracking all COMSEC inventory using the Key Management Infrastructure (KMI)
    • System administrator for the KMI Management Client (MGC)
    • Providing COMSEC customer support via walk-in, email, telephone, REMEDY, or Automated Messaging Handling System (AMHS)
    • Receiving, generating, and distributing electronic keying materials
    • Stocking, storing, and issuing keying materials to COMSEC subaccounts and other COMSEC accounts
    • Maintaining records and files, reporting security incidents, and providing periodic status reports regarding COMSEC material
    • Knowledge of the legacy Electronic Key Management System/ Local Management Device/Key

Desired Experience:
  • Working knowledge of virtualization, VMWare, remote desktop, remote computer management or equivalent
  • Familiarity with Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco routers and switches, WireShark, and CommVault
  • Ability to problem solve and think critically sometimes independent of significant experience or documentation of the problem area
  • Strong customer communication skills
  • Project management skills

  • Must possess an active

    Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility
