TRACTOR TRAILER MECHANIC
Trucking / Warehousing company located in Kearny, NJ looking for a responsible person to help maintain fleet of equipment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Participate in major and minor mechanical repairs of equipment
Diagnose maintenance problems
Replacing suspension parts, brakes, electrical lines, and air lines
Checking vehicle lighting systems
Test drive vehicles to gauge performance
Plan, organize and prioritize schedule of workflow. Assure timely completion of work
Maintain records and reports
Maintain adequate inventory of parts and supplies used in repairs of equipment
Adhere to DOT and FMCSA safety compliance, policies and regulations as it pertains to repairs
and maintenance of equipment
Perform daily / weekly / monthly inspections of equipment
Maintain cleanliness of the shop
Must be able to weld & use cutting torch
Repair holes in containers & trailers
Change tires on a chassis & trailer
Scrape & chip all rust off of all equipment and repaint
Wash chassis & rims twice per year
Work with tire vendors to ensure no rusty rims in fleet & all tires are good
Perform & sign off on Annual Federal Inspections (FHWA’s)
Check computer every morning for VIR’s with defects & address all defects reported
Sign off on VIR’s once defects are repaired
Inspect long distance trailers every afternoon
Check trucks weekly for cleanliness & fluid levels
Road service calls when needed
KEEP ALL FLEET EQUIPMENT SAFE TO USE & LOOKING GOOD
Qualifications:
Valid Driver’s License (CDL Class A license preferred)
Knowledge of trailer and chassis systems, including brakes, suspension, electrical, and hydraulic systems
Knowledge of diesel engine components
Knowledge of DOT, state and federal transportation regulations
Physically fit an able to lift heavy objects
Proficiency with maintenance and repair tools
Attention to detail
Good organization skills
Good interpersonal skills
Experience necessary for this full time position, also open to recent graduates from school.
