Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Carpenter to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in furniture Assembly and possess a keen eye for detail.

Responsibilities:

Reading Furniture Plans and Specifications: Interpreting blueprints, design sketches, or client specifications to understand the furniture’s design, dimensions, and assembly requirements.

Cutting and Shaping Materials: Measuring, cutting, and shaping wood, plywood, MDF, and other materials to create furniture components such as legs, frames, panels, and supports.

Furniture Assembly: Assembling pre-cut components to build various types of furniture, including chairs, tables, cabinets, bookshelves, and other custom-designed pieces.

Sanding and Finishing: Sanding edges and surfaces for a smooth finish, followed by staining, painting, or applying varnish to ensure a high-quality appearance and durability.

Installing Hardware: Installing hardware like hinges, handles, knobs, screws, and brackets as required in the assembly of furniture pieces.

Quality Control: Ensuring that all furniture is assembled correctly, is structurally sound, and meets the quality standards before delivery or shipping.

Customizing Furniture: Modifying or creating custom furniture based on customer needs, often involving adjustments to dimensions, design features, or finishes.

Repairing Damaged Furniture: Fixing damaged or broken furniture, including reassembling, replacing parts, and making adjustments for structural integrity.

Maintaining Tools and Equipment: Keeping all carpentry tools and machines in good working condition, ensuring they are safe and ready for use.

Handling Materials: Managing and organizing the materials in the shop, including ensuring correct storage and minimizing waste.

Keeping the Shop Organized and Safe: Maintaining a clean and organized workspace, ensuring safety standards are followed, and adhering to all health and safety regulations in the workshop.

These duties are tailored to someone working specifically in a furniture shop environment, where the primary focus is on the assembly, and customization of furniture pieces.

Experience:

The ideal candidate should have experience in the following areas:

Proven Carpentry Experience: At least 2 years of experience in carpentry or furniture assembly, working with wood and other materials in a shop setting.

Furniture Construction Knowledge: Strong understanding of furniture construction techniques, including framing, panel assembly, joinery, and fitting components together for both structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.

Blueprint and Design Interpretation: Experience in reading and interpreting technical blueprints, design sketches, or customer specifications for assembling furniture according to precise requirements.

Use of Carpentry Tools and Equipment: Proficiency in using carpentry tools such as saws, drills, sanders, routers, clamps, and other machinery commonly found in a workshop environment.

Furniture Assembly Skills: Demonstrated ability to assemble various types of furniture such as chairs, tables, desks, cabinets, bookshelves, and custom designs, including the installation of hardware like hinges, screws, and handles.

Custom Furniture Experience: Previous experience in custom furniture making, whether modifying existing designs or creating unique pieces based on client needs.

Experience with Materials: Knowledge of working with a variety of materials such as hardwoods, softwoods, plywood, MDF, laminate, and veneer, including knowing how to cut, shape, and finish each type.

Attention to Detail: Proven ability to ensure precision and accuracy in cutting, shaping, and assembling furniture components to meet design and functional specifications.

Quality Control and Inspection: Ability to assess completed pieces for quality and structural integrity, ensuring that the final product meets both company standards and customer expectations.

Problem-Solving Abilities: Experience troubleshooting common assembly issues, such as misalignments, damaged parts, or structural weaknesses, and implementing effective solutions.

Time Management Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring efficient use of time to meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality work.

Basic Math and Measurement Skills: Ability to accurately measure, calculate, and work with precise measurements for cutting and assembling furniture pieces.

Adaptability and Flexibility: Experience working with different styles, designs, and custom requests, adapting to specific project requirements as needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: 10 hour shift
