Responsibilities:Provides one-on-one counseling to prospective and current students on a variety of financial aid related topics to include completing the FAFSA, additional eligibility requirements, smart borrowing options, student loan repayment, and personal financial wellbeing.Provide programmatic oversight and subject matter expertise for loan or grant/scholarship programs available to SSVM students. Provide training for team members when required.Works collaboratively with the main campus financial aid office to administer federal aid programs for this population of students. Administers aid programs specific to the SSVM student population, including a portion of Federal Work Study dollars available.Reviews and determines the documents required to justify and calculate adjustments to aid. Calculate refunds for students, process R2T4 and conduct leave of absence exit interviews.Develop and recommend departmental processes and procedures to increase/improve operational efficiency and to ensure proper control and regulatory compliance. Maintain the SSVM Financial Aid Policy and Procedure Manual.Develop materials for counseling, entrance and exit interviews along with conducting group and individual sessions to present and answer questions. Maintains an up-to-date understanding of state, federal and institutional legal, fiscal and statutory regulations pertaining to financial aid and to assure compliance for the School of Veterinary Medicine; and assists in the completion of reports for federal and state agencies, annual audits and/or program reviews.As the student population grows, this position will make recommendations for adding to your team including developing job descriptions, leading search committees and training the new employees.Other functions may be identified and required as the SSVM programs evolve.Requirements:Three years of increasing responsibility within a university financial aid office supplemented with a master’s degree in a relevant field of study. Demonstrated knowledge of the financial aid programs available to students in the health professions, veterinary medicine students a plus.Diplomatic and polished interpersonal and communication skills include presenting to both large and small groups. Must be comfortable discussing financial matters with graduate students from all socioeconomic backgrounds in a professional and sensitive manner.Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively with the entire team to successfully perform various projects and financial aid office duties. Must be accustomed to periods of peak processing and successfully balancing multiple priorities. Must be available to work evenings/weekends when necessary, including on short notice in the event of urgent office operations; some domestic travel may be expected.Ability to interpret policies and develop procedures to ensure compliance. In-depth knowledge of regulations in interpreting and administering of federal Title IV, state, and university financial aid programs to ensure compliance. Proven ability to research, interpret and apply complex rules and laws.Strong technology skills with financial aid management software systems including Ellucian Banner and Student Financial Success platforms, SLATE and VMCAS, Cognos reporting tools, and Excel, and various federal aid processing systems.NOTE: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US, and the university will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.
