Project Management . Maintain the daily development/commercialization activities with respect to assigned projects to achieve seasonal and non-seasonal (SMU) project results from conception through completion of approved confirmed standards This entails advancing product specifications through development milestones, Model Fit-Extreme Fit/commercialization, confirmation standards, costing and leather standards in order to reach weekly/monthly deadlines

Process to be completed through utilization of PLM (Product Line Management) BOM (Bill of Materials)/Mini BOM/Materials electronic computer system for Color Update (CU), New Upper (NU) and Totally New (TN) project types

Works as a member of the Product Creation team to maintain product integrity with respect to safety footwear pre-certification at each milestone

Competitor product benchmark tear downs, traction analysis, at conceptual/line close/sales meeting stages as applicable; and any unique end use requirement(s)

All to be completed with a focus on innovation/efficiency for related product and process

Leverage internal Footwear Performance Index (FPI) testing on PRO and competitor product benchmark footwear, providing input to the Design/Product Management team to improve product, identifying key positive "feature/benefit" differences or product areas that need enhancements

Last Development. Work with the Senior Product Engineer, Design and Product Management/Merch to initiate and oversee the development of lasts based upon desired aesthetic, performance, comfort and fit while maximizing use of existing PRO last and protective toe cap library and for PRO brand fit consistency

Technical Package Development . Analyze specifications, materials, construction, fit, pattern and process at each stage of the development process providing input as needed to ensure fit, function and manufacturability

Actively participate in all product related milestones, from seasonal kick-off through commercialization

Upper Pattern Development . Execute against strategy for components and manage upper development for yield, manufacturability, fit, functional performance, cost and desired aesthetic throughout product creation process

Materials and Component Development . Coordinate and maintain material and structural specifications as well as the follow through on the testing of each individual component to maintain Timberland standards for quality, type and durability with regards to compounds, construction and mold type

Mold Development . Participate in the validation of mold development conformance from initial drawings through confirmation of sample size, including Extreme Size bottom molds

Validation includes analyzing sole design in support of Slip / Traction certification requirements

Footwear Development . Coordinate and manage certification to applicable Industrial/Hospitality/Health Care safety footwear standards to ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials), CSA (Canadian Standards Association), EN-ISO / UK (International Organization for Standardization) and any other country-specific related footwear safety compliance requirements in conjunction with “Buy-Ready” requirements.

Costing Objectives . Manage costing objectives as outlined by the Product Manager and work with design to achieve category goals

This entails supplying necessary information needed for pre-costing exercises during review of product briefs, through Tech Package development and final pricing of confirmation standards in conjunction with “Buy-Ready” requirements.

Forward Engineering . Work with the Senior Product Engineer and Lead Product Engineer in the planning and execution of Forward Engineering activities. This includes:

Buy readiness; manage development efforts to reach buy readiness on assigned projects by overseeing and meeting all calendar milestones necessary to achieve this goal

Managing engineering tear-down of product with country office/partner factory

Responsibility for any needed corrective action(s) in Commercialization Project Management

Maintain consistency of standardized pattern attributes meeting regional needs to make "Best Engineered Product"

Assist as needed with planning and execution of Forward Engineering activities to meet related commercialization and ”Buy-Ready” timelines

Communication/Documentation . Maintain and provide a clear form of documentation and communication with team members in order assist the transfer of the design solutions from concept through final product with country office developers and manufacturing representatives

Also applicable to internal/external VF corporate and Test/Certification Service companies

What do you need to succeed?We all have unique skills that we bring to work and celebrate every day. For this role, there are foundational skills you’ll need to succeed and excel. A bachelor’s degree in engineering, the sciences or industrial design is preferred but we are also interested in your 1-2 years’ experience with biomechanical testing and footwear product development and professional achievements.You will bring a desire for safety footwear development process with elevated attention to detail and technical skills, as well as a fresh perspective from a deep passion for footwear, Timberland PRO and our worthy worker consumer. You will have the opportunity to grow and expand with knowledgeable creatives, refining and evolving your skillset.The foundational skills you will need in this position are:

Experience with a PLM and or PDM (Product Data management) system is a plus

Basic computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Illustrator

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and be comfortable influencing others’ decisions to reach desired results

Optimal organizational skills

Results driven

Strong conceptual and creative skills

Proactively seek learning opportunities to build business and technical skills

Flexibility and open to organizational change

Proven project management experience required

The ability to travel to manufacturing locations, development centers and suppliers to ensure footwear product integrity is properly executed

Additionally, travel to trade shows and “Customer” job site locations necessary for understanding functional and occupational needs and keep current with future trends in research and development as necessary
