Communications & Program Coordinator

Star Island, a $4.2 million non-profit organization, with corporate offices in Portsmouth, NH, is looking

to add a full-time Communications & Program Coordinator (CPC) to their organization.

Reporting to the Conference Center Director, the CPC is responsible for coordinating Star Island

Corporation’s (SIC) communications, marketing, and outreach efforts, as well as selected volunteer and

other programs. During the conference season, the CPC supervises the following seasonal positions:

Island Naturalist, Music Director, and Art Coordinator.

Communications (including Publications, Marketing, Outreach, and Events):

Participate as active member of Staff Marketing Team, including keeping agendas and minutes,

scheduling meetings, and coordinating tracking and metrics (Staff Marketing Team, in addition to

CPC, consists of Conference Center Director, Chief Executive Officer, Development Manager,

and Island Minister/Beloved Community Project Manager).

Coordinate year-round communications, manage social media channels, email marketing, write

and distribute press releases. Maintain and update annual and long-term communications plans.

Administer, develop, maintain, and oversee content updates of SIC website.

Coordinate design and production of all SIC publications, including annual program brochure

(“Blue Book”), newsletters, guest booklet for island rooms (“Better Living on Star Island”),

online handbook for (volunteer) conference leaders, and annual donor recognition newsletter.

Collaborate with volunteer representatives of specific conferences on conference marketing and

outreach efforts in order to increase enrollment.

Provide support to various departments (e.g., Development, Beloved Community), including

desktop publishing support, production of promotional materials and signage, and fundraising

materials.

In collaboration with Staff Marketing Team, coordinate community events (2/year) and

fundraising events (2/year). Field wedding requests and liaise with appropriate departments re:

availability and feasibility for a limited number of on-island weddings (0-3/season).

In collaboration with Staff Marketing Team, coordinate annual online auction.

Collaborate with professional communications consultants on specific projects, as needed (e.g.,

press releases, arranging interviews, newsletter design).

Programs:

Serve as staff liaison to Outreach & Engagement Committee, Rutledge Marine Lab Committee,

and possibly another committee, depending upon interest and expertise.

Coordinate the Island Massage Program, in collaboration with core group of massage therapists.

In collaboration with the (seasonal) Island Naturalist, coordinate the Rutledge Marine Lab and its

programs.

In collaboration with the (seasonal) Music Director, coordinate SIC’s music program.

Coordinate Artists-In-Residence Program, including implementing annual application process to

line up a professional Artist in Residence (AIR) for each week of the conference season, and

serving as liaison between weekly AIR and conferences and employees. In collaboration with

(part-time seasonal) Art Coordinator, oversee Art Barn (an art space on the island).

Coordinate Ambassador Program (volunteers who assist with outreach and marketing), including

training ambassadors and providing them with promotional materials and other support.

In collaboration with professional marine contractor and (seasonal) Logistics Manager,

coordinate marine offerings, including Appledore Island trips and sunset cruises.

In collaboration with the Island Minister/Beloved Community Project Manager, support the SEA

Star Educational Program (partnerships with schools, field trips, etc.).

Actively support the Conference Center Director with new conference development.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

Minimum 3 years’ experience in marketing, communications, or related field

Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field

Experience with template-driven website programs, HTML, WordPress and Dreamweaver,

publications experience with Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop, email marketing, word

processing, spreadsheets, slideshow software

Experience with social media and traditional media communications

Experience with Raiser's Edge and Blackbaud NetCommunity a plus

Strong verbal and written communications skills

Excellent interpersonal skills

Tactful, creative, discreet, ethical, flexible, resourceful, dependable, friendly, and professional

Able to work effectively on multiple projects, and to balance and prioritize multiple requests;

excellent organizational and time management skills

Ability to work independently with little supervision and as a team member

(Mid-September through mid-June) Work from SIC’s Portsmouth, NH office, with flexibility for

hybrid/remote work up to 1-3 days/week. (Mid-June through mid-September) Overnight

stay/residency on Island during scheduled times during conference season, with flexibility for

hybrid/remote work up to 1-2 days/week. Transportation to and from the island as well as rustic

on-island housing and meals are provided at no cost to the employee.

Compensation & Benefits:

This is a full-time opportunity with a flexible hybrid work schedule. The salary range is

$45,000 to $53,000 depending on education and experience.
