AHRC NYC -Director of Advocacy Services

AHRC NYC is seeking a Director of Advocacy Services. The Director of Advocacy Services is responsible for supporting AHRC’s mission by developing and implementing internal and external advocacy efforts on behalf of students served and their families/ caregivers and by actively supporting full community inclusion. In particular, this position works to uphold the rights of students receiving special education services from the NYC Department of Education and other ID/DD service providers, ensuring that students and families experiencing difficulties in accessing appropriate services are well-advised and ably represented.Salary: $100,000 - $120,000 per year ESSENTIAL ResponsibilitiesDevelop and conduct strategic operations aligning advocacy program priorities with AHRC’s overall mission and goals.Provide representation at advocacy meetings with education and other ID/DD service providers, ensuring timely follow up with providers and family/caregivers participating in these meetings.Seek and respond to concerns and interests of students served, their families/caregivers and other stakeholders, as well as deliver information and referral services as needed.Conduct advocacy training for parents/caregivers, siblings and professionals.Ensure advocacy services meet high standards of excellence and quality by competently supervising staff and developing, implementing and analyzing assessment tools that measure constituent satisfaction and advocacy outcomes.Actively participate in agency’s Incident Review Committee and conduct investigations of incidents or sensitive situations as requested, as well as actively participate in Human Rights Committee.Represent agency on various advocacy coalitions.Develop and maintain advocacy relationships at state and local levels to ensure legislative and regulatory attention to the needs of people with disabilities.Complete timely, accurate and comprehensive reports on program services for internal and external purposes.
