A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PROJECT MANAGER WITH WELLING CONSTRUCTION
In this management position, you oversee the overall planning and progress from pre-construction to completion. Taking full responsibility for the completed project, you inspire your team to comply with safety regulations and ensure proper materials are at the site when needed. On-site, you meet with Site Superintendents to discuss work procedures, goals, and progress to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget. You also act as a liaison with clients and other contacts to facilitate project activities and manage the financial aspects of contracts to protect the company’s interests.
Your strong understanding of the construction trade helps you to interpret and explain contract terms and client expectations to your team. As needed, you meet with the necessary contractors to negotiate and draft agreements, solicit subcontractor bids and obtain permits and licenses. CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER QUALIFICATIONS AND DUTIES
● Five years of project management experience in the construction industry or construction specialties such as plumbing, carpentry or masonry
● Five years of construction management experience managing budgets and schedules
● Prior experience actively managing construction sites
● In-depth understanding of construction procedures, material and project management principles
● Project management skills such as time management, project budgeting, resource management and project scheduling
● Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
● Strong knowledge of construction best practices management
● Experience leading a construction crew
● Fluency in software programs related to construction management, including project management software
● Excellent organizational and time-management skills
● Outstanding communication and negotiation skills
● Negotiate contracts with external vendors to reach profitable agreements
● Obtain permits and licenses from appropriate authorities
● Determine needed resources (manpower, equipment and materials) from start to finish with attention to budgetary limitations
● Plan all construction operations and schedule intermediate phases to ensure deadlines will be met
● Evaluate progress and prepare detailed reports
● A team player with leadership abilities
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Current with rules and regulations related to local construction
● Proven risk management experience in construction projects
● Ability and willingness to learn and implement new computer software/programs
● Current OSHA 30 certification
