The Desert Research Institute (DRI) is seeking a dedicated individual to fill a full-time Building Technician/HVAC position. Duties include
Performing skilled work in the operation, maintenance and repair of heating, air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration equipment
Diagnosing mechanical malfunctions
Installing, replacing or repairing damaged equipment
Performing routine maintenance and repairs to HVAC and mechanical systems and components
Preparing cost estimates for repairs
Purchasing supplies and materials and documenting all work performed
Other duties as assigned; may include: providing general assistance to department personnel, faculty and staff; provide for building safety and security as well as inspect and maintain emergency systems for the buildings and physical plant.
Mechanical systems include chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, boilers, fan coil units, compressors, heat pumps, VAV boxes and related mechanical equipment such as motors, pumps and fans. In addition, you will be working as part of the Facilities team on projects specific to the remodeling and renovation of office and laboratory spaces. These projects may include light carpentry, drywall installation, painting and plumbing, in addition to HVACR systems, as well as other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, and equipment. Successful completion of trade school or technical coursework in trade related skills may be substituted on a year for year basis.
EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification
Ability to read and interpret plans, schematics and maintenance manuals
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Knowledge of construction safety standards and ability to strictly enforce all safety protocols
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of personnel, including technical and academic staff
Proven experience working within a team environment
