Summary Incumbent works in the Commander, Navy Region, Southwest (CNRSW) Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Program under the general supervision of the designated manager. Incumbent is responsible for the management, supervision, design, administration, operation, and technical direction of a fitness facility and the fitness program within the Southwest Region. Responsibilities Plans, organizes, and conduct a physical fitness program that provides conditioning programs for authorize patrons. Instructs individuals and groups in the proper implementation and maintenance of conditioning and training programs for aerobic fitness, muscular fitness, body composition, and flexibility training. Conducts micro-fit testing, which includes measuring individuals' aerobic capacities, their body fat percentage, recommended high/weight, ratios, strength, flexibility, muscular, endurance, and blood pressure. Works with various command, representatives in developing and implementing physical fitness programs for military personnel. Instruct patrons in the proper use of all equipment for training and self-motivated programs by preparing written, instructions and procedures, for the performance of work, use of equipment, safety, and all well-being of all involved. May train/lead other employees in various recreational/physical fitness related positions. Register students, collect fees, maintains attendance and appropriate accounting records. Ensures all safety measures are observed. Responsible for care of equipment and security of facilities. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications One-year experience in a fitness center. Knowledge of various strength training machines and cardiovascular fitness equipment. Ability and knowledge to perform minor repairs and maintenance of exercise equipment. Experience with exercise physiology, exercise prescription for apparently healthy populations and for individuals with physical problems/conditions (hypertension, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, pulmonary restrictions , musculoskeletal problems, chronic back pain and pregnancy), exercise and medication interactions, electrocardiography, kinesiology, anatomy and nutrition. Minimum of one year experience conducting graded exercise test on a stationary bike or treadmill with an electrocardiogram (EKG), performing body composition, lung function, flexibility, blood cholesterol and strength assessments. One-year experience counseling individuals on their results and recommending fitness and lifestyle changes to make healthful changes. Must be able to identify disease-related risk factors and be capable of assisting individuals with risk factor modification through exercise, diet, stress management, and other lifestyle changes. Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of all programs and to make recommendations for improving or correcting them. Ability to develop and customize presentations and address groups. Ability to speak to individuals/groups regarding fitness and lifestyle modification is required. Ability to maintain records and reports, follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate effectively with others. Education A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Exercise Physiology or Fitness and Nutritional Sciences is required or 4 years of related experience. Certification from a nationally recognized agency such as the American College of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise, or Cooper Clinic for Aerobic Research in the area of exercise science or be able to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
