Summary:Are you a skilled chemist passionate about ensuring environmental safety and operational efficiency? Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) is seeking a dedicated Chemist to join our team. In this crucial role, you will develop and implement chemistry and environmental programs, conduct complex analyses, and provide essential chemical services to support plant operations across all production sites. Your expertise will help maintain chemical surveillance, ensure safe and continuous plant operations, and uphold the highest standards of industrial hygiene and environmental safety. Responsibilities:

Develop, administer, and control power plant chemistry programs:

¿ Steam Cycle Chemistry.i. Sample, analyze, trend, and control chemistry parameters throughout the steam cycle (condensate, feed-water, boiler water, and steam).ii. Verify laboratory and in-line chemistry instrumentation are accurate and functional.¿ Water Plant Operations and support (filtration, clarification, reverse osmosis, ion exchange, electro-deionization).i. Monitor, troubleshoot, and initiate corrective actions for water and wastewater treatment systems and equipment.¿ Combustion fuel chemistry monitoring.i. Sample, analyze, trend, and control chemistry parameters in the coal and fuel oil systems.¿ Lubricating oil monitoring.i. Provide support for lube oil monitoring (sampling and analyses) as part of a predictive maintenance program.

Assure compliance with Production Operating Sites¿ environmental programs via sampling, analyzing, trending, and control.

¿ Environmental plans ¿ Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures Plans (SPCC), Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SPPP), and Risk Management Plans (RMPs).¿ Environmental permits ¿ Air Quality Operating Permits, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permits, Ash Landfill Permits, and Radioactive Material Licenses.

Provide support in Industrial Hygiene and emergency response.

¿ Maintain and calibrate atmospheric monitors used for confined space and emergency monitoring.¿ Perform Hazmat team duties, including use of a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and full-face respirators.Qualifications Required:

Bachelor degree in either chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science, biology, or other related scientific field; OR other education, training, and work experience that have developed the candidate to a level of a Bachelor degree in a related discipline.

Must have proven laboratory skills, strong mechanical aptitude, good teamwork, and interpersonal skills.

Must have or be able to obtain HAZWOPER Technician level (40 hour) certification; State of Nebraska Asbestos Inspector or Supervisor license; EPA Method 9 Opacity certification.

Must hold a valid driver¿s license.

Desired:

Previous power plant and/or water treatment experience.

Have or be able to obtain a State of Nebraska Wastewater Class L Operator certification.

Have or be able to become a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
