Request for Proposals (RFP) for a Strategic Planning Consultant

Proposal Due Date:

Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis,

starting March 31, 2025, until a proposal is selected

Introduction

Mountain Home Montana (MHM) is a fast-growing Missoula nonprofit whose mission is

to provide a safe home and nurturing community where young mothers discover their

strengths and children thrive. Since 2000, we have built an effective, holistic model of

care that integrates supportive housing, mental health care, employment and education

support, trauma-informed childcare, and more.

MHM is seeking proposals from qualified strategic planning consultants to guide our

organization through a comprehensive strategic planning process. This initiative will

help us evaluate our growth trajectory and develop a well-structured plan for a move in

July 2025 to a larger facility, currently being renovated and on track for completion in

May 2025. MHM currently serves 100 community-based clients (including mothers and

children), six families in our group home, and five families in our transitional housing.

Our new facility will allow us to grow to serve 26 families in our group home and 32

children in our new childcare center. The selected consultant will work closely with

leadership, staff, and stakeholders to ensure an inclusive, thoughtful, and intentional

approach to our growth.

Project Background and Objectives

One of the primary topics we aim to address in this strategic planning process is our

move to the new facility and the pace of our growth. Our board is committed to a flexible

and open-minded approach, ensuring that all options are on the table for discussion and

input. The key objectives of this project include:

● Assessing the timeline and financial implications of various growth scenarios.

● Evaluating expectations set by current grants and funding sources.

● Structuring the move to ensure a strong foundation for long-term success.

● Creating a detailed growth plan, with timelines, to reach capacity in the new

facility.

● Ensuring an inclusive and intentional approach to organizational transition.

To achieve these objectives, our Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Staff will be

analyzing financial data and other key factors affecting our growth and transition.

Scope of Work

The consultant will be responsible for:

1. Guiding the creation of implementation and operational plans for growth,

including a detailed plan for our move.

2. Recommending a strategic framework for decision-making.

3. Facilitating discussions with board, staff, and key stakeholders.

4. Guiding the development of financial models and strategic scenarios.

5. Identifying potential risks and opportunities.

6. Providing a final report with actionable recommendations.

Proposal Requirements

Interested consultants should submit a proposal that includes:

● A cover letter summarizing interest and qualifications.

● A description of the proposed approach and methodology.

● A timeline for project completion.

● A detailed budget.

● Relevant experience and references from similar projects.

Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following:

● Relevant experience in strategic planning and organizational transitions

(experience planning for a physical move and organizational growth preferred).

● Demonstrated ability to facilitate inclusive and thoughtful discussions.

● Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities.

● Clear, actionable recommendations tailored to our needs.

● Competitive pricing and value for services provided.

Submission Details

● Email proposal (PDF format preferred) to Wendy Webber, Manager of HR and

Operations, at wendy@mountainhomemt.org.
