THIS IS A YEAR-ROUND FULL TIME SALARY JOB. SALARY TO BE DISCUSSED AT INTERVIEW - Depends on experience, CDL helpful but not required.

APRIL - OCTOBER - 7 days/week & on call - cell phone provided. Days off given randomly throughout the irrigation season. Vacation time used during off season November - March.

PAID VACATION / SICK TIME / HOLIDAY PAY / GAS MILEAGE PAID April - October

Must have reliable vehicle and vehicle insurance.

As a ditch rider you will be responsible for all communication with your division water users and delivering of water safely and efficiently. You will conduct all necessary maintenance on canal and laterals as instructed by superintendent to keep the ditches flowing, i.e. repair gates & checks on ditches, hauling dirt, rocks, etc. for laterals and main canal maintenance. Drive trucks; operate dozer, backhoe, ditcher, or other equipment as assigned by supervisor. Repair and install checks, gates, etc. build forms, pour cement, shovel, repair equipment in the shop. Burn weeds on ditches, clean ditches as required for good water delivery.

In 1905 the project brought the first lands in the area known as the Billings Bench under irrigation. The final system consists of 63 miles of main canal stretching from Laurel to northeast of Shepherd, Montana, including 2 reservoirs and over 200 miles of company-maintained laterals. Water is provided for the irrigation of over 17,000 acres, most of which is agricultural but also waters City parks and cemeteries.
