Adams & Martin Group is hiring for General Counsel within the real estate property tax field. The company is located in Chesterfield, Missouri. The company assists their thousands of clients in challenging their property tax bills by challenging local jurisdictions' assessor's valuations of their clients' commercial properties, which include high rise office buildings, strip malls, mixed use industrial buildings, owner occupied buildings and other commercial real estate. The General Counsel heads the in house legal dept and also maintains a separate law firm that acts as a captive firm for the company's clients. The main responsibility of the legal dept is the filing and pursuit of property tax appeals on behalf of clients in MO, IL, CO, CT, MD, MN, IN, KS. The legal dept currently consists of the General Counsel and 3 additional attorneys. The qualifications of the General Counsel would include:A)At least 20 years legal experience, preferably with a business and litigation backgroundB)Licensed in at least Missouri and preferably in our other statesC)An ability to multi task and manage multiple efforts and projects simultaneously. D)Ability to work with Owner/CEO and the Chief of Staff on a regular basisE)Experience with property tax appeal work or eminent domain work. F)Ability to interact with all company departments and department heads, such as accounting, IT and analystsG)Be able to recruit and maintain additional attorney talent H)Be able to perform all tasks him or her self would ask any staff attorney to do, such as research, writing and trying tax appeals to a judge or state hearing officer. The General Counsel's duties include:a)Assisting in the creation and negotiation of all contracts and agreements affecting the company including customer contracts, vendor contracts, employment agreements, leases, construction improvement contracts, IT contracts, etc.b)Monitoring or effecting if available, all collection efforts against customers/clientsc)Strategic planning with the CEO and Chief of Staffd)Coordinating, leading and encouragement of all attorneys within the legal dept and tasking them where needed and assisting in their development of specialties needed for our department, such as litigation expertise, expertise in making and pursuing Freedom of Information act requests in various jurisdictions' and real estate appraisal expertise. Salary is based on experience.
