Yard Associate
Reports to: Yard Manager, GM, Office Manager, CEO
Work Environment: Outdoor construction environment
Physical Demands: Standing, Bending, Lifting (up to 50lbs), driving (forklift / loader), climbing (in/out of loaders) heavy machinery operation
Position: Full Time – 5 day workweek Monday – Friday (8am – 5:30pm) with day off during the week, Saturday (9am – 3pm) (Mandatory)
Essential Functions:
Priorities: Customers > Inventory > Equipment Maintenance > Tasks > Projects
Customer Flow
Daily interaction with customers to receive Load-Out and coordinate loading of materials
Safely and accurately loading materials into pickup trucks or trailers using a wheel loader, skid steer, or forklift
Maintaining awareness of customers in the yard in need of loading or assistance
Completion of assigned items in the Task List
Loading and offloading if outbound and inbound delivery trucks via forklift or pallet jack
Gathering materials for current and future material orders as assigned via Load-Out
Use of truck and pallet scales to accurately record tare and gross weights
Maintain a tidy work area by palletizing stone, moving pallets, sweeping, and collecting debris for disposal
Consistent use, wear, and maintenance of a handheld radio for prompt communication
Engaging customers you encounter in the yard to ask if they need assistance
Consistent coordination with office staff to ensure delivery loading is on schedule for the current and next day
Notify sales staff or management of any customers that require assistance
Ensuring receipt of Load-Out prior to loading or weighing customer
Management of Load-Outs to ensure accuracy and payment of materials
Proper use of digital scale functions and printed scale tickets on every order for accuracy and record-keeping purposes
Notifying main office or management of any discrepancies between Load-Out and customer instructions or needs
Managing the sale of edging, weed barrier, and polymeric products to ensure accuracy and quality
Operation of the bagging machine as needed
Assistance in saw building as needed
Notifying office of customer returns
Inventory
Ensure inbound flatbed deliveries are properly processed in a timely manner
Ensure assigned section is well-organized and presentable
Equipment Maintenance
Evaluate equipment issues as they arise and perform lockout-tagout procedure and notification to management
Check oil and coolant levels prior to operating machine
Tasks
Ensure completion of assigned section tasks every shift
Other Functions:
Safe use of equipment as described in OSHA guidelines
Complete training and equipment training modules as assigned
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Ability to operate heavy machinery including wheel loaders, forklifts, skid steers
Ability to spend majority of time outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to walk several thousand steps per day
Excellent communication skills and ability to manage a team
Physical Requirements:
All yard positions require interaction with heavy machinery in a standing or sitting position. Ability to quickly walk around and climb in/out of equipment several times per day is essential. Day to day duties will involve standing for extended periods and may involve frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs. Ability to stand and walk for several hours per day. Ability to work outdoors in varying temperatures and humidity levels. Ability to wear protective gear including dust masks, respirators, back braces, eye and ear protection.
