(PEI) is a progressive land development and public infrastructure civil engineering and land surveying design firm. We are in Olathe, KS (Kansas City area) which is one of the regions’ fastest growing areas. We are seeking a civil engineering technician with an interest and experience in civil engineering land development. Position involves the design/drafting of roadways, site layouts, grading design, utility plans, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, waterlines, land disturbance and other related civil designs for subdivisions and multi-family residential projects. You will work closely with a team of talented professionals under the supervision of the team project manager / principal engineer. Position also requires extensive communication with team members and outside authorities (city, utility, client representatives). The successful applicant will be a self-starter, motivated to meet deadlines and budgets and possess the ability to clearly communicate his/her design intentions to other team members. Must have strong interpersonal, technical, written and general computer skills, and ability to work well with others in a team environment. In addition to a strong technical skill set, the position requires proficiency with Microsoft office applications and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Specific job tasks include:
Prepare civil engineering drawings for a project, utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Work with engineers and techs to turn rough sketches and ideas into engineering drawings. Develop drawing and designs into a completed project, working under supervision of team leader.
Perform technical tasks which regularly require the application of fundamental engineering concepts and mathematical formulas (i.e. plan/profiles, slope calculations, grading, cross sections, drainage)
Determine construction quantities and perform necessary calculations using accepted formulas and references
Develop and detail design elements which have not been clearly defined in the layouts or sketches
Create various section cuts, profiles and cross-sections from the plan views
Perform related fundamental engineering support tasks (plotting drawings, preparing transmittals, preparing overnight package, updating computer lists, filing prints, distributing drawings, making routine calculations, proofreading reports, etc.)
Address permitting agency comments. Communication with permitting agencies and utility companies will be required.
Internet research of manufacturers data for aid in design documents
Requirements
Candidates should possess the following:
High school Graduate with vocational technical training in basic drafting technology and typically 3 to 5 years of related experience (or equivalent working knowledge/experience), or a 2-year degree in drafting/design technology and 1 to 3 years of related experience.
Working proficiency of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
