40 hours per week

$19.51 per hour plus excellent benefits

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of KCDML leadership, the KCDML Facilitator develops and implements digital media and maker focused programming for youth ages 8-18. This position requires a high level of teamwork, responsibility, communication, capacity for youth mentorship, as well as the ability to interact with youth, adults, and the public in a positive and appropriate manner.

Job Duties

Works collaboratively with Library staff to design and implement digital media and maker related programming for both tweens and teens.

Creates and maintains a supportive environment that is conducive to skill development and adolescent development based on teen interests, and peer and intergenerational collaboration.

Conducts digital media and maker focused workshops with participants of varying backgrounds, including those with disabilities and English as a second language.

Coordinates and maintains equipment, materials, and supplies for instruction.

Maintains attendance stats, supports program evaluation, and attends all required meetings and training sessions.

Participates in KCDML outreach efforts as needed.

Assists with maintaining and updating KCDML social media and website.

Requirements

Ability to create safe, inclusive, supportive, and creative environments for youth and mentors.

Demonstrated intermediate skill level within one of the following areas: audio/video production, 3D design, or other types of making.

Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, plan ahead, anticipate, and articulate program needs. Ability to work independently while keeping open communication and providing status reports.

Ability to experiment with new technologies, and capacity to adapt them and teach them to others.

Ability to operate site-specific equipment including, but not limited to, desk and laptop computers (PC and Mac), tablets, photography and video making equipment, music-making tools and software, maker equipment (i.e. 3D printers, vinyl cutters, Arduinos, etc.).

Monitors trends in popular culture and tracks best practices in youth development and technology.

Ability to perform in non-traditional learning settings.

Ability to work with diverse populations (i.e. age, gender, class, sexual orientation, ethnicity)

Reliable transportation to get to KCDML at the Southeast Branch (6242 Swope Parkway), as well as other meetings and/or outreach events.

Must be able to commit to a flexible schedule of 40 hours per week year-round that will include working on some Saturdays.

Minimum qualifications include an associate degree in media production, computer science, or education and experience working with youth. These requirements may also be met by an equivalent combination of education, related work experience, and life experience.

Normal work schedule:

Mon 10:00 am-6:30

Tue 10:00 am-6:30

Wed 10:00 am-6:30

Thu 10:00 am-6:30

Fri 10:00 am-6:30

Saturdays as needed
