Position Summary: The Pharmacist – Oncology and Infusion role helps provide high quality oncology and infusion pharmaceutical services that foster efficacious, safe and cost effective drug use for our patients. They play an integral role in the oncology and infusion treatment coordination and delivery of clinical and distributive services. Primary duties include: clinical review and order verification, following pharmacy clinical protocols/policies, interdisciplinary work, drug information for providers and nurses, overseeing infusion pharmacy activities, providing guidance and oversight for pharmacy technicians. Actively participates in medication safety and quality initiatives. Supports clinical research and oral oncolytic pharmacy services as assigned. Maintains optimal pharmacy practice through continued growth and development and complete all required CEs for licensure in the state of Montana. Works closely with Clinical Oncology Pharmacy Supervisor and other members of the pharmacy leadership team.Minimum Qualifications:Required

Bachelor of Science or Doctorate of Pharmacy

Montana Licensure (Pharmacist)

American Heart Association BLS within 3 months of hire

ASHP PGY-1 residency experience and/or equivalent oncology/infusion or hospital-based experience of at least 2 years

Preferred

ASHP PGY-2 residency in specialty area or three years of experience in specialty area

Pharmacy board certification in area of specialty

Essential Job Functions:In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements.

Demonstrates competent knowledge and skills of EPIC and automated-dispensing systems. Keeps up to date on EPIC upgrade knowledge and relays questions and concerns to pharmacy super trainer group. Clinical review and verification of provider orders. Maintains competency and demonstrates knowledge of clinical pharmacy protocols, and accurately completes all required job functions. Documentation of relevant clinical activities is completed and shift handoffs to team members are provided. Adheres to relevant Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital policies, procedures and guidelines.

Reviews oncology and non-oncology treatment and supportive care regimens for accuracy and completeness, assessing optimal medication selection, and ensuring safe and effective use of medications.

Oversight of infusion pharmacy activities including inventory management and pharmacy technicians. Processes medication orders and monitors workflow activity to maintain timely medication services. Verifies technician activities related to hazardous and non-hazardous medication preparation and delivery. Competent in sterile room processes, IV admixture and hazardous medication handling and preparation. Maintain bi-annual PATT/GFS requirements.

Provides drug information to providers, nurses and other ancillary personnel. Promotes strong interdisciplinary communication and attends interdisciplinary rounds/tumor boards/huddles as assigned. Actively contribute to medication safety and quality initiatives. Reporting of adverse events and good catches. Identifies areas of improvement and updates for patient care based on national guidelines. Contributes and participates in pharmacy education among peers and for residents and students. Strongly encouraged to participate in state and/or national pharmacy associations.

Supports clinical research and oral oncolytic pharmacy services as assigned. Provides patient education as appropriate.

Maintains optimal pharmacy practice through planned and continuous growth and development. Seeks new learning experiences. Meets C.E. requirements. Contributes and participates in pharmacy education. Active member of state and /or national pharmacy societies preferred. Assume projects as assigned by Clinical Oncology Supervisor, Pharmacy Manager, or Cancer Center Director.

Physical Requirements

Lifting, Pushing, and Pulling: Support 50 pounds of weight (patient, assist with bedside needs, etc.) Lift 50 pounds (pick up a child, transfer a patient, etc.) Carry equipment/supplies. Use upper body strength (CPR, physically restrain patient, etc.)

Extended Hours: The role may involve working for extended periods, requiring sitting, walking, or standing for eight or more hours daily.

Flexible Schedule: The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.

On-Call Availability: On-call work may be required to respond to organizational and patient needs promptly.

Effective Communication: Proficient in effective communication, both in person and through various technologies.

Handling Challenging Situations: The role may involve dealing with upset individuals, requiring the ability to de-escalate situations and work effectively with frustrated patients or families.

Repetitive Tasks: Ability to perform repetitive tasks as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
