Be a part of a dynamic team that create new and modifies existing processes, defines process equipment requirements and specifications, and reviews techniques and methods applied in the manufacture, fabrication, and evaluation of Ring Laser Gyroscope and MEMS based Inertial Sensors and IMUs. The Automation Engineer II will influence the planning and designing of manufacturing engineering processes, by bringing automation skillset to an existing team of product and process engineers. This skillset may include automation hardware experience or IIOT types of software and manufacturing digitization. You will determine technologies needed by the team to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specification, for improving existing and introducing new processes/product technologies. You will maximize efficiency by analyzing the layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization. Assist in the development, integration, and own production implementation of automation equipment (i.e. robotics or digitization). Support daily production activities and drive producibility improvement projects in a challenging environment. RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives to drive continuous improvement and innovation in the manufacturing environment. Collaborate with Sourcing and Procurement, Engineering, Manufacturing, Design, Quality, ISC teams to place orders for new equipment (Capital) Own, develop and be responsible for a pipeline of projects within a specific technology area for the Minneapolis RLG and IMU factories. Understand the budget/schedule, manage Capital Planning System (CPS) requests, drive CPS execution. Management, design, implementation and deployment of automation projects hardware and software that monitor and/or control the manufacturing process. Create Statements of Work and Project Charters with hands-on collaboration with vendor(s) and integrator(s). Ensure thorough risk analysis (via tools like PFMEA) to mitigate challenges with machine or process qualification steps. Support existing solutions and design / implement new, innovative solutions for industrial operations which may include Industrial PC’s (hardware, operating systems, peripherals), PLC’s, Motion Control, Machine Vision – continuous inspection / defect inspection, Instrumentation – Pressure, Flow, Temperature, Level, Weight, Speed Provide test and manufacturing support for RLG and MEMS based inertial measurement units (IMUs). Investigate and resolve technical issues, facilitate issue identification and analysis. Support knowledge for test equipment and preventative maintenance plans to maintain factory capacity and efficient product flow. Utilize CAMP, Lean, and Six-Sigma methodologies to govern engineering standard work practices. Develop improvements in product design and in the manufacturing and assembly processes for cost and cycle time reductions. U.S. PERSON REQUIREMENTS Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status.MUST HAVE: Bachelor's Degree in STEM field 3+ years’ experience Must be a U.S Citizen due to contractual requirements Technical experience in the use of Microsoft Office (including MS Project) tools, and understanding of Robotic Programming (FANUC, Rob guide, etc.), PLC Programming (Studio 5000), CNC Programming (CAM, etc.) Determination to overcome obstacles, take initiative, be organized, and be detail oriented.WE VALUE: Six Sigma Lean Expert or Black Belt or PMP Certified Experience with manufacturing software support such as C#, SQL, Network Architecture, Python or R, Oracle or SQL Server, Web Development (ASP.NET), SAP, OPC Standards, Object-oriented programming and LabView. Knowledge of software configuration management and change management practices. Manufacturing environment experience and best practices such as: RCCA / Lean / Six Sigma Quickly and accurately identifying subtle interrelationships and patterns among a variety of problems and issues (process and data correlation of cause/effect across value stream). Hands on work ethic. Initiative and ownership of responsibilities and actions. Ability to partner and collaborate well with team members. Conveying information with clarity and directness, ensuring the message is understood across diverse teams. Ability to balance priorities in daily tasks and strategic projects.
