Owatonna Elks #1395 is a community-focused organization dedicated to charitable efforts around veterans, youth and community. Our lodge regularly hosts events, dinners, and community activities. We’re seeking a reliable, organized, and experienced Part-Time Kitchen Manager to oversee and support our kitchen operations.
Job Summary:
The Kitchen Manager is responsible for managing day-to-day kitchen operations to ensure high-quality food service for members, guests, and events. This includes supervising volunteer kitchen staff, planning menus, food preparation, ordering supplies, and ensuring compliance with safety and cleanliness standards. This is a hands-on position ideal for someone who enjoys both leadership and cooking in a community-focused environment. This position reports to the House Committee.
Responsibilities:
· Oversee kitchen operations during events, dinners, and regular service
· Plan, prepare, and execute menus for Lodge and Club functions (dinners, banquets, special events)
· Manage kitchen inventory and order supplies as needed
· Understand and properly maintain all equipment
· Ensure all food safety and sanitation standards are followed
· Supervise and schedule kitchen staff and volunteers
· Maintain a clean, organized kitchen and storage area
· Maintain neat and professional appearance and always observe personal cleanliness rules
· Work with Lodge leadership to coordinate food-related needs for events
· Assist with budgeting and controlling food costs
· Adheres to state and local health and safety regulations
Requirements:
· Previous kitchen management, chef, or line cook experience (commercial or high-volume preferred)
· Certified Food Protection Manager certification (or willingness to obtain)
· Strong communication, organizational and leadership skills
· Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
· Comfortable managing a small team and working with volunteers
· Positive, community-minded attitude
Physical Requirements:
· Able to work effectively in a kitchen environment with occasional extremes in climate (heat, cold, humidity) for an extended amount of time
· Able to sit, stand, bend, push, pull, and walk on a regular basis for periods of up to 8 hours or more a day
· Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift and carry 50 lbs.
· Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, reaching and repetitive hand and arm movements constantly, squeezing and overhead reach occasionally
· Must be able to twist and bend frequently, and squat occasionally
Schedule:
· Flexible with 2–4 evenings/week plus special events
· Evening and weekend availability required
Compensation:
· Hourly wage range is $18–$25/hour, depending on experience
