This will include reviewing MPCA records to determine the closure or postclosure status of sites, assessing the risk to human health and the environment, and coordinating reviews and preparation of closure documents with staff engineers. The records review will enable the incumbent to determine priorities in moving forward with regulatory oversight of closed landfills or with approving facilities to exit the postclosure care period.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Hydrology, Geology, Hydrogeology, Water Resources Management, Soil Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Science; or other closely-related environmental field; and two completed courses in Hydrology/Hydrogeology. [Candidates must list the two courses in Hydrology/Hydrogeology on their resume to qualify]ANDTwo years of professional experience as a Hydrologist or equivalent. Experience must include evaluating groundwater flow and understanding fate and transport of contaminants in groundwater.WITHBasic computer skills; proficiency in Word and exposure to Excel and Power Point.Ability to gain a complete understanding of the environmental regulatory process and procedures.Knowledge of statistical principles and methods of data analysis and ability to apply these methods.Good communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with internal and external business partners.Possess a valid Driver's license (see additional requirements).The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will not sponsor applicants for work visas. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.Preferred QualificationsDemonstrated ability to bring projects to a satisfactory conclusion.Problem-solving skills for resolving complex technical matters.Experience with public communication efforts on health or environmental projects.Proven written and verbal communication and human relations skills to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.Advanced technical writing skills related to the remediation of contaminated soil, groundwater, and vapors.Proficiency with GIS.Ability to make environmental regulatory decisions based on data.Physical RequirementsThis position will require conducting landfill inspections to determine if closure and postclosure care requirements are met. This may involve walking on slopes, and on uneven ground. Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.Additional RequirementsA driver’s license is an essential function of this position. This requires possession of an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License. The job offer is contingent on confirmation of a valid driver’s license AND a satisfactory DLR check.Requires a Class D driver´s License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver’s license.
