Job DescriptionThe YMCA School Age Care program is hiring part time child care staff age 16+ with availability before or after school to care for kids grades K-5. Free Y membership and lots of growth opportunity with this fun role at the Y! The YMCA before and after school childcare program is dedicated to the quality development and engagement of school age children in partnership with families, schools, and communities. The YMCA before and after school childcare program aims to develop the whole child by providing school age-appropriate learning experiences and opportunities using a theme-based curriculum with activities that include:

Health & Fitness

Science, Technology, Engineering & Math

Social Emotional Learning

Service Learning

Academic Enrichment

Field Trips, Swimming & Special Events

School age care staff receive ongoing training, resources, and mentoring to aid in their professional development.

The salary for this position starts at $15.00 hourly. We take into consideration an individual’s background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status.

Job Summary:

The School Age Child Care Program Staff is responsible for assisting with planning, leading, and implementing recreational and creative experiences for school age children in a group setting. This position will operate at a specific school age site. The incumbent provides high quality recreational experiences for school age children that focus on the YMCA core values of caring, equity, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Essential Functions:

Assist with the writing and implementation of weekly lesson plans.

Organize and lead a variety of activities appropriate for school age children. Activities may include arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor games, enrichment activities, etc.

Ensure that the site is kept clean and organized.

Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, daily rosters, logbook documentation, and attendance records.

Assist in completing child and program evaluations.

Maintain employee requirements for Minnesota Department of Health and Safety (DHS) Certified Centers or Wisconsin Department of Children and Families (DHS) Licensed Centers.

Maintain CACFP and Minnesota DHS or Wisconsin DCF regulations for meals and snacks, if applicable.

Relationships:

This position reports to the Site Director who reports to the Program Director. The incumbent interacts regularly with children, parents, and staff members from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications:

Required:

Minimum age of 16 for MN locations or 18 for WI locations

Adult and child CPR or CPR/PR; First Aid certified or ability to obtain within 30 days.

Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.

MN or WI State background check and state fingerprints required upon hire.

Good skills in communication, organization, and human relations.

Willingness to work with diverse populations

Preferred:

Previous experience working with school age children.

Knowledge of DHS or DCF program requirements.

Work Conditions:

Actively participate in youth games/activities which include getting in the water during swimming.

Ability to travel locally to YMCA branches and other program sites.

Perform all physical aspects of the position, including moving around, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.

Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/dangerous situations.

Maintain supervision for prolonged periods of time which may include: swimming, outdoor activities, bus rides, field trips, etc.

May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids as part of the childcare environment.
