Description:Vehicle Configuration Design Engineer - Seating Properties Specific Responsibilities of this Position About Strategic Vehicle Integration (SVI) and Vehicle Configuration: Vehicle Configuration is a team of about 55 experts within Strategic Vehicle Integration that effectively forms a bridge between the Creative Design Studios and Engineering to integrate and enable our future products while protecting occupant accommodations. Strategic Vehicle Integration is an aspiration area for many engineers and designers because it: Focuses on Total Vehicle Integration. Works predominately on the early phase development of our most exciting programs. These are new architectures and major programs where there is the most opportunity to make lasting contributions that really matter. Is driven to develop solutions to improve our vehicles and then work with key stakeholders in the Design Studios and Engineering to make them into reality. Has a very broad scope of responsibility which provides tremendous opportunity to grow advanced technical skills. Is the champion for protecting occupant accommodations such as visibility, spaciousness, and cargo/storage. Available Combined Specialist role within SVI Vehicle Configuration: All roles are high-end CAD intensive. All roles involve complex, high-level assemblies with data from many sources. All roles require exceptional organization and communication skills. Role 1: Seating Property 3D math creation Specialist: Modeling and surfacing in NX to create integrated 3-D surfaces and solids to support seating property builds and updates. NX Drawings to create drawings to support parts fabrication. Responsible to release math and drawings on time to meet physical build plan for major program milestones. Monitor property build progress through Design Center Fabrication shops and address issues as they arise. Facilitate mock-ups and rapid prototype parts. Used to fabricate physical seating properties and interface with shop fabrication areas. Used for virtual reality reviews. Used to represent the gold source 3-D integrated solution that accommodates the latest styling surfaces. Role 2: General Arrangement (GA) Specialist: This role focuses on industry standard activities like positioning the “Oscar” occupant in the vehicle, setting overall program targets for and evaluating the vehicle’s ability to meet requirements such as spaciousness, entry/egress, visibility, and cargo. Includes shipping dimensions, marketing dimensions, export dimensions and numerous users across the company. Early GA work is frequently ahead of interior surface development so this person will need to manipulate typical sections and historical solutions to create the initial feasible 3-D interior trim to be evaluated. Responsible to release math and drawings on time to meet major program milestones. The most advanced specialists will have strong enough CAD skills to also heavily support the creation and optimization of parametric tools and CAD processes that will redefine and accelerate the way we do this work. Required Skills Bachelor’s or Technical Associates Degree, or equivalent integration experience. Demonstrated high level NX CAD capability - modeling and drafting (Top Skill). Understanding principles of automotive design (Top Skill). Excellent oral and written communication skills (Top Skill). Familiarity with the construction and use of physical seating properties early in vehicle development. Familiarity with the General Arrangement, Oscar occupant, eye ellipse, and typical sections. Familiarity with the BlueBook and SAE dimensions and procedures. Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others. Ability to integrate complex systems and balance multiple inputs. High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult. High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others. Ability to lead cross functional meetings, escalate issues, and drive decisions. Familiarity with general automotive manufacturing processes. Skilled in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Preferred Skills Experience creating parametric NX tools to be utilized by others. Experience writing Visual Basic in Excel. Knowledge of compartment integration design processes. Knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication processes. Comfortable/experienced creating 3D associative math and using Sketcher. Experience within the Body Structure, Closures, Electrical, or Interior automotive engineering/design. Experience working with Creative Design Studios. Total vehicle, architecture, and occupant integration experience.
