Description We are offering an opportunity in Marquette, Michigan for an individual well-versed in accounting functions, particularly in the healthcare sector, to join our team as an Assistant Controller. In this position, you will play a key role in assisting with departmental operations, including handling various accounting software systems, overseeing the month-end close process, and ensuring hospital-wide compliance with internal and external auditing standards. Responsibilities: Assist with the establishment of departmental goals, plans, and standards with regard to the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements of the organization. Support the operations of the department, including the management of information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives. Take part in staffing activities, such as hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives. Foster an environment that encourages professional growth and keeps the department focused on their important role in the continuum of care. Oversee the monthly financial close process to meet established deadlines, ensuring all financial transactions are properly executed and recorded. Assist the Controller in ensuring hospital-wide compliance with SOX controls. Consult with internal and external auditors, as well as personnel, to design, modify, and implement controls as required. Utilize accounting software systems to streamline accounting functions, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and Payroll. Assist with auditing procedures, budget processes, and financial reporting to maintain financial transparency and accuracy. Implement and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with financial regulations. Requirements Candidate must possess at least 5 years of experience in an Assistant Controller role or similar. Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems is necessary for this role. Thorough understanding and proven experience in Accounting Functions. Profound knowledge and experience in handling Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) is required. Experience in Auditing is essential. Candidate must be familiar with Budget Processes. Proficiency in Financial Reporting is required. Experience in handling Payroll is necessary. Familiarity with Month End Close procedures is a must. Understanding of Internal Control is essential.
