IPF Building Services Structural Services invites applications for the position of painter and we need your help. The department is responsible for preparing and coating a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces, fixtures, and furniture and perform related operations including complex painting activities. This position will assist in or perform any combination of repair, fabrication, installation, maintenance, service, alterations, and related duties normally associated with the painting/glazing trades; repairs surfaces for painting; develops, fabricates innovative methods, materials, and equipment to meet specialized needs; Mixes and blends paint and stains to meet criteria; selected and uses appropriate materials, tools, and methods in accordance with job requirements; applies patterns and stencils; finishes wood surfaces and furniture and other special effects; brushes, rolls or sprays paint onto interior or exterior surfaces including walls, ceilings, trim, machinery, and furniture; performs minor glazing operations; installs other types of coatings including wallpaper, fabrics, vinyls, and similar materials; applies various finishes including varnishes, shellacs, lacquers, stains, and enamels, by using a spray booth, conventional and/or airless spray equipment; performs graffiti removal on campus; erects and works from ladders, scaffolding, boom trucks, and similar devices; reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams, sketches and job specifications; prepares recommendations, records and similar information for supervisory and management use; estimates time and materials to be used on the job; stocks, maintains, and may operate a University service vehicle; may staff a swing shift trouble truck and respond to a wide variety of service calls; serves as a resource authority to supporting skilled trades; leads, trains and oversees support staff; identifies health hazards associated within the working environment. At IPF, we are committed to fostering an equitable, inclusive culture; engaging and hiring a diverse workforce.Minimum RequirementsCompletion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience;Successful completion of an applicable trade-specific Trades Helper program, or completion of an approved apprenticeship program, or an associate degree, or equivalent education/experience; Five years’ experience in the trade that includes three years of experience in commercial painting installation, maintenance and troubleshooting and demonstrated ability to independently perform the duties and responsibilities of the classification, or equivalent experience; Ability to differentiate between color hues; Expert knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade; Expert knowledge of applicable building codes, rules, and regulations (local, state, and federal); Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license; Must drive a university vehicle to perform the duties of this classification. Must furnish own hand tools; Frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds.Desired QualificationsExperience in commercial and industrial painting. Experience working with wallpapers, fabrics, and vinyls. Experience applying various finishes including shellacs, lacquers, stains, enamels an epoxies. Experience using a spray booth, conventional or airless spray equipment.
