TS Chassis Systems Design Loads and Suspension Durability

Are you ready to change the way the world moves?In this positionTechnical Expert (LL6) position leading technical design and development of Chassis Systems Design Loads and management of Suspension Durability Validation in our Ford Vehicles.Responsibilities

Lead development and maintenance of the chassis systems design load and suspension durability validation specifications, methods, and foundation documents including design rules, RQTs and interface contracts/agreements.

Own the development and specification of GSS, GEDL, and VDLT load cases and methods for all Ford vehicle types and chassis architectures including GSS and GEDL load tables and templates used as input for vehicle load cascades. (GSS = Global Suspension Strength Standard, GEDL = Global Endurance Design Loads, VDLT = Virtual Durability Lab Test also referred to as HSRC = Hybrid System Response Convergence)

Own supporting GSS and GEDL rationale and lead / organize benchmarking (physical and CAE) as needed to support keeping the standards up to date and covering the Ford chassis architectures.

Own alignment of vehicle to system to component suspension durability validation from a physical test method and acceptance criteria perspective as well as a system and component CAE perspective.

Lead weekly Design Loads Tech Club meeting to develop standards and answer program specific questions.

Primary interface for Design Loads and Durability with the Loads and Durability Teams at a Core or Foundation level for procedures, processes, prevent recurrence and root cause work at a system level for suspension.

Suspension Team SPOC for Proving Ground and Lab Durability Testing: Establish a cadence of reviews at Proving Grounds of Test Vehicles and at Lab of System + Vehicles. Lead all pre-test sign-off and post test teardown for Suspension Components and Systems.

Lead the deep dive, root cause identification, and development of robust 8D’s at a system level involving the correct lead application engineering team for the 8D and increasing efficiency and through-put of 8D resolutions in the suspension manager / chief meetings.

Support durability issue reviews at the engineer, manager, chief, director, and VP levels.

Assist foundation SME’s with robust prevent recurrence actions and drive issue read across where needed.

Coach, Mentor, & Train D&R engineers across the various global regions on chassis systems design loads and suspension durability validation.

Create/maintain Generic FMA documentation

Go-To for Problem Solving – Launch, Recall, Quality / Field Issues, DV/PV Issues

Conduct benchmarking to optimize designs for future programs

Provide technical support to the Architecture, Core, and Applications teams for the development of all chassis systems design loads and suspension durability validation plans.

Provide Technical leadership to broader Underbody Systems and frame engineering teams.

Leverage CAE modelling capability to optimize quality, maximize efficiency and minimize cost

Create and Conduct training sessions

Other Information

Position requires occasional travel to assembly plants and other global chassis engineering centers to support new process development, issue resolution, and Design and Release engineer training.

Travel may be significant at times as needed

On-site support for collaboration required targeting 3 days per week minimumQualifications

BS-Engineering required, MS-Engineering preferred

Extensive component engineering design & release experience, knowledge of various chassis architecture performance characteristics, and experience with vehicle, system, and component durability validation methods.

Extensive experience creating and managing DFMEA/PFMEA/SCCAF/Control Plans/ drawings-GD&T

Experience with problem solving tools – 8D, 5 why, Six Sigma, etc.

Experience with CAE tools and methods.

Knowledge & experience with associated suspension supplier manufacturing and quality processes.

Required leadership skills - quality focused as #1 priority, innovative, excellent communicator, strong organizational skills, highly motivated self starter

Strong analytical, math, and programming skills related to joint design and creation of engineering tools

Understanding of GPDS deliverables and basic Ford engineering tools including Teamcenter and buck environment.

Ability to handle complex tasks and challenging situations under compressed timing

Experience communicating with senior leaders, design and release, manufacturing, and suppliers

Outstanding planning, organizational and project management skills with proper follow-up to accomplish multiple objectives

Excellent written and oral presentation skills
