Our mission is guided by our Strategic Principles and has three critical components; patient care, education and research that together enhance our contribution to society.ResponsibilitiesThe Giessen laboratory at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor seeks a Research Investigator with expertise in protein biochemistry, enzymology, biophysics, and structural biology to participate in a research program studying bacterial protein nanocompartments and enzyme filaments. The successful candidate will play a key role in research that focuses on the structural characterization of megadalton protein compartments and protein filaments, specifically via single particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM). In addition to carrying out bench research, the candidate will supervise and train junior and new members of the group and collaborate with other laboratories and research personnel. The candidate will also play a central role in evaluating research findings, preparing research papers for publication, presenting data at scientific meetings, and applying to funding agencies as appropriate, to support their research.Candidates are expected to have a doctoral degree in biochemistry or a related field, plus a minimum of four years of relevant postdoctoral experience, with proficiency in the following areas:? Protein production in Escherichia and Streptomyces? Biochemical and biophysical characterization of large protein complexes? Single particle cryo-EM analysis of large protein complexes? X-ray crystallography? Demonstrated authorship in peer reviewed scientific journals and publicationsRequired QualificationsCandidates are required to have a doctoral degree in biochemistry/biotechnology or a related field, plus relevant postdoctoral experience, with proficiency in the listed responsibilities.Background ScreeningMichigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
