Job Summary:Information and Technology Services (ITS) at the University of Michigan has an exciting opportunity for a Network Engineer Senior.This position is part of a team that is responsible for the design of In-Building (wired and WiFi) and Core networks. This team is currently in the midst of a multi-year project to replace the core and distribution layer of the network. At the same time, Colleges and Schools across the Ann Arbor campus will be replacing aging portions of their in-building networks. The person who fills this role will be responsible for designing and implementing in-building networks across campus. This includes the distribution layer and access layer (wired and WiFi). The successful candidate will have a solid knowledge of ethernet and Wi-Fi, switching and routing protocols, and associated equipment.Work can either be on site or remote, but there may be times when on site work is necessary.May require working during non-business hours and on weekendsAfter hire, must have a personal mobile communication device and home internet connection

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science/engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) - Enterprise and/or Certified Wireless Design Professional (CWDP)
  • Minimum of 4 years experience with designing networks, both wired and WiFi
  • In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF)
  • Experience with Unix, MacOS and/or Windows based computers and 4 years of experience developing scripts or tools to manage network infrastructure
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply scientific methodology skills in troubleshooting
  • Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, and collaboration applications

Desired Qualifications: (Optional)
  • Experience in project management methodologies.
  • Additional certifications
  • Experience with connecting to cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform)
  • Hands-on network operations experience in a multi-vendor environment

Physical Demands/Work EnvironmentThis position may work either on-campus or remotely, however, there will be times when being on-campus is required. Normal amount of sitting, average mobility to move around an office and telecommunication environments; able to conduct a normal amount of work at a computer; travel to various locations on and off campuses. Will need to walk/ perform inspections in construction areas where we are designing or installing telecommunication wiring or to manage staff and meet with customers, vendors and employees. Responsible for following industry standards, regulations and instructions regarding telecommunication wiring, systems and OSEH regulations. May require working during non-business hours and on weekends.
