Your statement should list the courses for which you would be interested in serving as a GSI (and a ranking of preferences, if applicable).Course DescriptionThe Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences is looking to hire approximately five GSIs in the winter 2025 term. We expect the students will support the following courses, though specific course needs and fractions may change through the process:

EARTH 120 -Geology of National Parks and Monuments (https://webapps.lsa.umich.edu/cg/cgdetail.aspx?content=2520EARTH120001&termArray=w252520) , expecting to hire one 0.5 section instructor GSI

EARTH 201 -Introduction Physical Geography (https://webapps.lsa.umich.edu/cg/cgdetail.aspx?content=2520EARTH201001&termArray=w252520) , expecting to hire one 0.5 section instructor GSI

EARTH 218 -Introduction to Environmental Science Lab (https://webapps.lsa.umich.edu/cg/cgdetail.aspx?content=2520EARTH218003&termArray=w252520) , expecting to hire one 0.5 section instructor GSI

EARTH 380 -Natural Resources, Economics, and the Environment (https://webapps.lsa.umich.edu/cg/cgdetail.aspx?content=2520EARTH380001&termArray=w252520) , expecting to hire two 0.5 section instructor GSIs. Please note this is an ULWR course.

Please review the course guide (at the links) for course descriptions.ResponsibilitiesDuties will include teaching either two lab sections, three discussions, or or one ULWR discussion section, holding office hours, attending lectures and assisting where appropriate, grading assignments, and general course preparation and administrative tasks. GSIs will need to attend lectures and be available for the requisite number of sections. Please review the course guide for specific times for each course. GSIs assigned to EARTH 380, the upper level-writing (ULWR) course, will be responsible for substantial grading of written materials and first time ULWR GSIs must enroll in WRITING 993.Required Qualifications

Currently enrolled as a graduate student in good standing at the University of Michigan.

Possess the ability to effectively teach and evaluate undergraduate students.

For potential GSIs whose undergraduate medium of instruction was not English, prior satisfactory completion of ELI 994 and the GSI-OET.

Desired Qualifications

Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in the classroom.

Previous GSI experience with favorable student evaluations.

Previous coursework in or familiarity with Earth and environmental sciences.

Previously taken or served as a GSI for the relevant course.

LSA student enrolled in a graduate program.
