The Music Director is responsible for leading the church’s music ministry, directing multiple musical aspects of the Sunday morning worship service. The Music Director provides guidance and direction for the musical ensemble while encouraging congregational participation as they lead hymns and songs.

The Music Director ‘s responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Work in collaboration with the Pastor and Worship Committee to help provide a cohesive and spiritual experience for congregation members

Select and prepare choral anthems/songs for the singers/choir which are aligned with the theme/readings for the given Sunday (songs to be selected three weeks in advance, with copies provided to singers for preparation)

Accompany the congregation in the singing of hymns and songs in a manner which promotes full and active participation by the congregation

Rehearse with singers/choir at a time deemed mutually agreeable (weeknight and Sunday morning prior to service have both been utilized in the past)

Be available for additional special services which may include Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Baccalaureate, Thanksgiving ecumenical service, Christmas Eve, and funerals

Qualifications:

Prior experience as a church musician, to include traditional and contemporary music, directing and leading singers/musicians/choir

Proficiency in playing organ and piano/electronic keyboard (both are preferred)

Knowledge of church music (to include both traditional hymns and more contemporary worship songs) and ability to play/accompany in a worshipful and enriching manner

Organizational skills which include planning and implementing rehearsals and providing copies of music both electronically and on paper

Communication skills which include email/text communication with Pastor, singers and other church members as needed use of google drive, and online music databases

Interpersonal skills which include the ability to give and receive feedback and instruction, ability to learn new musical styles and be flexible and adapt to the needs of a small but growing church.
