The nation’s satellites perform important civil, scientific, and national defense functions such as navigation, communications, weather forecasting, astronomical observations, and surveillance. As space becomes increasingly congested and contested, maintaining awareness of all man-made objects around the Earth is critical for ensuring the safe and effective operation of U.S. satellites. The Advanced Sensors and Techniques Group develops and tests electro-optical and radio frequency (RF) sensors and resilient space systems critical to maintaining this awareness of the space domain. We develop and test some of the world’s most exquisite optical and radar systems from our main campus in Lexington, MA and our field site location the Millstone Hill Radar Field Site in Westford, MA Job DescriptionA Senior Machinist is required to support multiple programs in a dynamic laboratory environment to assist the group in fabrication needs. The position requires someone who is a highly skilled machinist proficient in precise machining standards and must be able to work without supervision. In addition, they should demonstrate mechanical ingenuity and experience working to close tolerances from blue prints, specifications, verbal instructions, CAD files and sketches. Requirements
Must have a minimum of five (5) years of applicable experience
Competence with mechanical design calculations and fabrications
Experience with SolidWorks
Experience with 3-axis CNC Mills specifically in addition to other machines and techniques
CAM works experience desired
Experience with CNC lathes a plus
Experience with manual machining methods
Effective communication with colleagues
