Looking for new apprentices in the Film/TV lighting business for a lighting and grip rental house. This would be structured as an unpaid apprenticeship with paid work prospects while you are training, and eventual promotion to shop technician. This position requires heavy lifting, creative thinking, people skills, and (eventually) some hard but exciting and engaging work.
We are Fastlights, a lighting and grip rental house that services New England television/film/commercial work. This position is for our Western Massachusetts office in a historic church. Feel free to give us a google. We have a large fleet of trucks of all sizes, keep an inventory of state-of-the-art lighting and video equipment, and help our clients achieve a high production value. We have some large projects and ideas in the works including making our business greener, establishing ourselves as a turn-key production company, and further expanding our business geographically. In the summers (when there isn't a pandemic going on) we love to have cookouts with the crew and tend to our permaculture garden.
The training period would be 40-80 hours while you learn our process, the ins and outs of the gear, lighting techniques, set protocols, basic truck maintenance, and general shop etiquette. After you are fully trained to a basic understanding, you will be doing paid work pulling and loading lighting packages in trucks, shelving gear, and working as a crew member on set. Opportunities on set begin as a Production Assistant (PA) and then move up to a lighting technician (Grip or Electrician) and then upwards from there. There is truly always room to grow and more to learn.
While you are training, and beyond, there is always general labor, like driving a vehicle to do pickups or drop offs, shop cleanup, and other odd jobs. If you have a good background in marketng, social media, WordPress, carpentry, wielding, painting, significant pay increase while doing those skillsets. This position will reward those who come in early and often with drive and motivation to learn and work.

It is a dual period piece "pre industrial age/ post fossil fuel age" involving a story of folks learning to live in harmony with all life on earth as a desperate attempt to save us from self destruction " (think permaculture, agroforestry, food forest, natural building, ram earth, compressed earth blocks, mules , lamas, wild edibles, medicinal plants, key line design, immersive eco tourism). If you have any skills relative to this super fun and fascinating project, please reach out. Need experts in EB-5, marketing, web design, LIDAR, 3D printing of Diorama , passive solar design, Medieval Castle/ Fort Building, Root cellar designers to support intentional community of 1200 with one year's worth of rations - for grid down / cyber war scenarios , natural fibred spinning and weaving, business plan writing, autoCAD, Trail Cutters, FatBike / Cross country ski trails, Non Profit set up expertise (for little side adventures involving seed saving, Beaver study, Poitou Donkey Breeding to create Percheron mules capable of moving mountains! lol) Google THE EARTH CHARTER. That will form our "Guiding Principles". And we will be using (In the Script for the mini television series at least) SOCIOCRACY as the form of governance.
Guarantied lots of fun. Property is surrounded by 6,000 acres of state land that prohibits motor vehicles, and there is a 50 ace lake for part of our private play pen. Wonderful rock outcrops, valleys, rich soil in areas. Mini Series script calls for 6 villageseach specializing in a craft of days gone by prior to industrial age.

5. Permaculture: love to buy tons of edible plants and fill all our properties, and then some!
6. Cow hide tanning: In USA, last year, we Americans shipped 1 MILLION plus cow hides to the landfill! Sooo Even thought CAFOs (Consolidated Animal Factory Operations") are living hells for the animals, we may as well see if we can put that material to good use. So we have a Ben and Jerrys commercial planned and it involves a tractor trailer load of unsalted, blood still wet, being fleshed and tanned - by hand, with an army of 100 folks, all done Fossil Free.
We need to work out all logistics and see first hand the time and resources needed to do the volume in record time.
7. Hempcrete interlocking blocks: We really like the ones made by "hempcreteblock.com" (shipping from Australia). We are happy to spend the research money to buy the Hurd and Line, and build forms to see if we can do the entire process Fossil Free - at Scale (whatever the phuck that means). We need to practice and build our "rapid deployment shelters" as part of the film / Television set - to be able to house 400 folks.
8.Pitch Deck : Need a pitch deck for our little 30 Mill project. And not to mention a website or two!
