We're a beloved local small business with fans all over New England but primarily here in the Pioneer Valley. We specialize in creme brulee (mostly dairy-based with some vegan flavors), sold at markets and festivals as well as catering. Since our cook is leaving us to become a pilot, we're looking for a new part-time cook (additional opportunities exist for candidates separately interested in also working at farmers' markets, events, and festivals).
A typical week is approximately 16-18 hours and will include light ordering/inventory and production planning, cooking and ensuring you leave a clean kitchen. Some weeks may require 30+ hours of work (with advance notice). While a schedule must be set in advance and maintained, you can choose your hours between 7AM-5PM.
Responsibilities and Requirements:
- This role requires a lot of independent work and self-motivation; once trained you'll mostly be in the kitchen on your own
- Team player who can take direction and work independently but isn't afraid to ask questions
- The ideal candidate has significant cooking experience, but tons of kitchen experience (we will train) is not required
- A ServSafe Food Protection Manager (FPM) certification is required but if you don't have one we'll cover the $200 cost of the exam if you commit to sticking around for four months
- You'll need to be hands-on in the kitchen following our recipes but also free to brainstorm and test out ideas
- Keep the kitchen clean and tidy, and don't mind pitching in with dishwashing
- Must have clean driving record and own vehicle to get to South Amherst
- Work closely with the team and management to keep things running smoothly
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ordering, inventory, and similar tasks
- No recreational drugs or alcohol while working
- No criminal history
