Employment Type:Part timeShift:Rotating ShiftDescription:JOB SUMMARY:Mercy Medical Center will provide student nurses enrolled in an accredited nursing program the opportunity to partner with a Registered Nurse mentor to prepare them for future practice. The goal of this program is to provide nursing students the opportunity to increase their clinical competence, develop organizational skills, and explore nursing practice in various patient care settings. The partnership with the mentor provides a beneficial relationship for the student to work with the Registered Nurse as a professional role model.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Duties include completing a variety of activities and tasks comprising the care of patients and their families under the direct supervision of the nurse preceptor.Collaborates with the RN in data collection for patient admission, plan of care, and discharge instructions.Participates in the development and implementation of care plans and patient education.Performs and assists patients with activities of daily living (ADL). In doing so, performs bathing, positioning, skin care, ambulating, toileting, nutritional needs and assists with transportation.Performs procedures and treatments such as EKGs, preps, point of care testing, application and monitoring of patient's responses to restraints and constant observation.Performs, reports findings to the registered nurse and records in patients’ medical record, basic nursing care procedures such as activities of daily living, collecting routine specimens, vital signs, pulse oximetry, bladder scanning, intake and output, height and weight, monitoring patient response to restraints.Will be cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives and policies of the department and the hospital.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:A Student Nurse enrolled in an accredited school of nursing, currently in good standing and who is entering junior or senior year, is required.Certified in CPR required and must be maintained.Work requires the ability to exchange information on factual matters. This type of interaction requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients and their families, visitors and/or hospital staff.Work requires providing direct patient care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, young adult, adult, and geriatric patients.WORKING CONDITIONS:Requires exposure to blood and various body fluids, which require caution and use of established safety guidelines and equipment.Ability to lift and move heavy objects/patients with or without reasonable accommodations.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:Reports to the Nurse Manager or designee.Has no responsibility for the direct supervision of any other colleagues.Trinity Health's Commitment to Diversity and InclusionTrinity Health employs about 133,000 colleagues at dozens of hospitals and hundreds of health centers in 22 states.
