Perform highly complex laboratory testing, design research and testing methods, resolve compatibility problems, and validate and interpret test results for scientific projects. Manage change plans, procedures, training documents, validations, and technical reports. Provide consultation to internal or external customers and help train staff. Perform on-call duties as required. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State, and local regulations.WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):1. Manage the technical development of the laboratory, keeping abreast of emerging technologies.2. Conceive and design research, assay development and troubleshooting of applicable methods. Collect, analyze and interpret test results.3. Design, optimize and validate cell-based, immunologic and/or molecular tests, as applicable. Cell-based assays will include flow cytometry-based methods. DNA-based assays will include real-time PCR, Sanger and next generation sequencing methods.4. Manage specimen, reagent and supply inventory and instrument maintenance for assay development and validation purposes.5. Manage preparation, development, execution, and implementation of change plans, procedures, training documents and validations. Assure that activities are performed in compliance with American Red Cross BSDs, state and federal regulations - including the CFR and local standard operating procedures.6. Prepare technical reports, abstracts and presentations for internal and external audiences as well as manuscripts for publication.7. Instruct other scientists, research associates and participating personnel in objectives and methodology of projects. Participate in continuing education programs, keep abreast with scientific publications relevant to current projects and areas of interest to the business unit.WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):Education: Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences or related field required. Ph.D. or MD/DO preferred. MT (ASCP), CHT (ASHI), or CHS (ASHI) preferred.Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant immunologic and/or molecular genetic laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Ph.D. with 3 years of experience may be substituted.Management Experience: N/ASkills & Abilities: Working knowledge of HLA immunohematology or molecular genetics laboratory testing, as applicable, as well as relevant laboratory analysis software. Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory issues related to clinical laboratory work performance. Strong written and verbal communications skills. Proven organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks, delegate and follow-up. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and motivate others.
