First Student is hiring immediately for a Mechanic to support our Whitman, MA shop! Help keep our classic yellow buses safe and reliable for the students who depend on them every day.
Why Join First as a Mechanic?
Hourly Rate: $35/hr (per union contract; includes 6 school bus certifications within first 6 months)
ASE Bonus: Additional $0.25/hour per relevant ASE
$3,000 Sign-On Bonus
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM for first 90 days. Afterward, shift is by seniority (6:00–2:30 or 8:30–5:00)

What You’ll Do:
Maintain and repair our fleet of C2 Freightliner school buses
Troubleshoot and diagnose vehicle issues
Perform maintenance on brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, and transmissions
Complete work orders and assist with mobile emergency calls
Requirements:
5+ years of experience with automotive, diesel, electric, or CNG vehicles
Valid driver’s license (CDL B with Passenger endorsement required — we’ll help you get it!)
Mechanic’s tool set
DOT drug testing required (Marijuana not permitted under federal DOT regulations)
