A concrete carpenter installs the concrete formwork foundations in the early stages of a building or other construction project. As a concrete carpenter, your job duties involve setting up the basic form of the building structures, such as framing, scaffolding, or molds to lay concrete. A career as a concrete carpenter typically requires experience in concrete and formwork construction, along with having carpenter hand tools, such as a power drill, circular saw, and hammer. Some employers also require a background check, drug screening, and a valid driver’s license. You may pursue postsecondary education at a vocational school or training as part of a carpenter’s apprentice program to gain a competitive advantage in the industry. Additional qualifications include strong mechanical skills, the ability to exert heavy physical effort, and knowledge of safety codes and regulations for building sites.
