The Boston Center for Independent Living (BCIL) is a frontline civil rights organization led by people with disabilities that advocates to eliminate discrimination, isolation, and segregation. Position Summary: The Pre-Employment (Pre-ETS) Coordinator oversees the development and delivery of pre-employment transition services to people with disabilities, ages 14-21, enrolled in high school and/or post-secondary educational programs. The coordinator engages in the hiring and training of staff who work directly with students in school settings, in the community, at the BCIL office, or remotely. The coordinator assists in setting up and facilitating group workshops, providing 1:1 mentoring to students, and developing and overseeing paid internship opportunities. The coordinator engages in outreach to and collaborations with school administrators and educators, MassAbility counselors, and youth transition colleagues at other provider organizations. The coordinator is responsible for programmatic administration and reporting. This position reports to the Youth Services Program Manager (YSPM).

Responsibilities:

Train and supervise Pre-ETS staff in BCIL protocols for student engagement, school communication, delivery of Pre-ETS curriculum and documentation of services.

In coordination with YSPM, conduct outreach to community partners, school personnel, MassAbility counselors, parents, and others to maximize opportunities for work-based learning, and to increase awareness of and access to those opportunities, including pre-employment skills training, virtual and actual job shadowing, and paid internships by youth with disabilities in our service area; assist in developing a comprehensive schedule of youth programs and transition-related parent and professional trainings.

Deliver services to Pre-ETS participants from no more than four different schools, adjusting work schedule and location as needed, serving as a role model for young adults with disabilities.

Develop systems to ensure routine contact with all school/program sites, collection and recording of data, and organization of information.

Document services and activities in BCIL and Mass Abilities databases in a timely fashion. Prepare and deliver required reports, monthly and/or as requested. Complete other reports as needed by BCIL supervisor, managers, or funding sources.

Attend quarterly and other meetings with MRC, with Boston area Pre-ETS providers, and with other youth transition collaborators.

Participate in monthly and bi-weekly BCIL meetings, including Staff Meetings, Direct Services Meetings, Case Conference, Youth Team, and others, as instructed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

Member of the population to be served or has relevant independent living experience.

Commitment to independent living philosophy.

Prior experience working with and/or teaching youth with disabilities.

Ability to communicate and work effectively with people from all walks of life.

Effective public-speaker; able to present information to both small and larger

Excellent writing skills that can be utilized in report writing, curriculum development and other programmatic communications.

Ability to prioritize, teach, and model job duties.

Proficient use of Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Comfort with using various forms of technology, including those utilized by young people.

Able to travel throughout BCIL’s service area (driver’s license not necessary).

Willing to flex schedule occasionally to meet programmatic needs (i.e., there are some evening and weekend outreach or community education opportunities)

Bilingual skills in languages used by consumers (Spanish, Haitian Creole, Mandarin, Cantonese) a strong plus.

Equipment Operated: Computers, copier, scanner, Microsoft Office, printer, and other office equipment/programs.

Working Environment: The office area is a shared workspace divided by cubicles or desks. Verbal communication can be heard from other staff in adjoining cubicles or desks. Will need to be in the office or field a majority of the time in order to interact in-person with students, coworkers, and school administrators; occasional remote may be possible as approved by supervisor.

Hours: 40 Hours – Full Time

Salary: $48,000 -$52,000 depending upon experience
