Job Title: Information And Referral Specialist, Bilingual Spanish

Reports To: Assistant Director of Services

Location: Boston / Temple Place

The Boston Center for Independent Living (BCIL) is a frontline civil rights organization led by people with disabilities that advocates to eliminate discrimination, isolation and segregation by providing advocacy, information and referral, peer support, skills training, PCA services, and transitional services in order to enhance the independence of people with disabilities.

Position Overview: A full-time, benefited position, responsible for Information and Referral Services, responding to inquiries from consumers, referral sources, and the community at large. Provides information and referral regarding disability-related resources, programs, services, and benefits. Develops and maintains Excel workbook containing information about key community resources and contacts. Processes request for BCIL services and refers these requests to the appropriate BCIL Program Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Live answer calls from consumers about service-related inquiries.

Retrieve and respond to voice messages as soon as possible, and within 24 hours.

Provide in-person office coverage during business hours, meeting with consumers who visit Temple Place seeking information and services. When needed, meet via phone or remote link with consumers who visit the Dorchester office.

Assist callers/visitors requesting information about disability-related issues or needs, providing information if available, and/or making referrals to appropriate resources.

Document all consumer contacts and organizational activities in a timely accurate manner.

Refer service requests to the appropriate BCIL Program Manager for assignment.

Actively participate in all monthly Aging and Disability Resource Consortium (ADRC) meetings and/or trainings.

Oversee the maintenance of the Information & Referral resource list.

Track referral sources (organizations and contacts) to assist managers in assessing and planning outreach efforts.

Engage in outreach and advocacy activities as feasible and approved by supervisor.

Participate in mandatory meetings, including Direct Service, Staff, and Case Conference.

Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications:

An understanding of disability rights and independent living philosophy. Lived experience with disability is a plus.

Confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA is mandatory.

Fluent in Spanish (written and spoken)

A working knowledge of Massachusetts and Metro Boston human services/advocacy resource network or demonstrated capacity to learn about resources quickly and independently.

Relevant experience in the human services field.

Ability to work and make decisions independently as necessary.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to provide thorough attention to detail.

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work as a member of a team, be a creative problem solver and deliver exemplary customer service. Displays initiative and self-direction.

Ability to manage time effectively.

Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Office365.

Equipment Operated:

Computers, copier, scanner, Microsoft Office, printer, and other office equipment/programs.

Working Environment:

The office area is a shared workspace divided by cubicles. Verbal communication can be heard from other staff in adjoining cubicles. This position requires full-time presence in the office (Downtown).

Hours: 40 hours - Full Time

Benefits:

2 weeks paid vacation (increases with length of service)

2 personal days / 13 holidays / 12 sick days

Salary: $48,000 - $52,000 depending on experience/knowledge of local resources and social service systems.
