About Elmendorf Baking Supplies & Cafe

We're a locally owned baking supply shop, cafe, and grain mill in Cambridge, MA. Our shop focuses on high quality baking equipment, supplies, and ingredients with a strong emphasis on regional products.

The cafe offers delicious homemade sandwiches, Barrington Coffee & espresso drinks, and awesome baked goods often made with flour milled at the shop. Our bakery recently received a Rising Star restaurant award!

We're a pretty cool place to work with a lot to learn and room to grow. Our shop has an old world feel and we expect employees to provide old school personal customer service. Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader who is passionate about baking, food, and hospitality and wants to help bring that enthusiasm out in others. The Shift Leader supports the Store Manager and owners in carrying out the vision of the front end of the shop. This position is full-time (35-40 hours), 5 days a week. Along with the general daily duties of making espresso drinks, ringing customers up, providing great customer service, packaging products for the shelf and washing dishes, the Shift Leader’s role also includes:

-Overseeing cafe when Manager is not present (including opening and/or closing)

-Delegating tasks throughout the day (packaging products for the retail shelf; making cafe syrups; baking off cookies; etc.)

-Ensuring great customer service is met

-Keeping the pastry case and espresso area stocked, clean, and up to shop standards

-Keeping the cafe area inside and outside clean, neat and a nice place to be

-Communicating with the Manager and back of house as needed

-Being a positive presence and role model

-Assist in training new employees

-Ordering product for cafe as needed

Qualified candidates will have:

-At least 1 year in front of house cafe experience

-Strong interest in baking and food

-Retail experience not required, but a plus

-Professional baking experience not required, but a plus

-A sense of urgency while keeping a friendly demeanor

-Ability to take direction and ask questions

-A sense of cleanliness and organization

-Reliability VERY important

-Ability to get along with others

-Ability to work 8-10 hour shifts, including at least one weekend shift. (you’ll occasionally be asked work both weekend days).

Compensation and Benefits

Pay: Average $23-$25/hr including tips (base wage $15, plus $8-$10 per hour pooled tips). Guaranteed minimum $23/H
