Statutory / Investment Accountant

Description We are seeking a Mutual Funds Accountant to join our team in the insurance industry, located in Boston, Massachusetts. Your role will encompass managing investment accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of investment portfolios, and providing in-depth financial analysis to support company decisions.Responsibilities: Manage and enhance investment accounting systems and processes. Account for investment transactions, including preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and certifications. Conduct detailed reviews of investment balances, unsettled trades, and suspense accounts during month-end closing processes to ensure financial statement accuracy. Collaborate with third-party service providers, client representatives, and the finance team to address suspense activity and confirm proper recognition of investment-related transactions in the general ledger. Assist in the creation of quarterly and annual financial statements, including disclosures related to investments. Ensure the timely and accurate reporting of investment results, including fair value measurements and impairment analysis. Prepare quarterly reports for board meetings and other investor communications as required. Maintain compliance with relevant regulations, including NAIC guidelines, state insurance department requirements, and internal policies. Coordinate with external auditors during financial and regulatory audits, ensuring that all necessary documentation is provided. Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard investment accounting processes. Contribute to special projects and initiatives as assigned by management.Requirements Proficiency in using Accounting Software Systems. Experience with ADP - Financial Services. Proficient in using Bloomberg Terminal for financial data analysis. Familiarity with Blue Book guidelines and regulations. Ability to generate and interpret Crystal Reports. Comprehensive understanding of Accounting Functions. Knowledge of Accrual Accounting principles and practices. Experience in Auditing, with the ability to identify discrepancies and ensure compliance. Understanding of Budget Processes, with the ability to create, manage, and adjust as necessary. Experience in Capital Management, with the ability to make informed decisions on investments and asset allocation.
