Our Opportunity:Chewy is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Supply Chain technology team in Boston, MA . As a Software Engineer, you will assist in innovating, designing, and building services and frameworks to provide solutions supporting Chewy Supply Chain’s key initiatives in the order routing optimization space. Software engineers need to understand our business goals, collaborate with other leaders, and innovate rapidly, and deliver high-quality and high-value functionality.This role will allow you to use your technical expertise to accelerate the adoption of the best engineering practices while maintaining knowledge of industry innovations, trends, and practices. You will help drive innovation, scalability, and maintainability while working with our highly skilled engineering teams.At Chewy we continue to grow and always think big about new innovative ideas, while consistently exploring opportunities to differentiate ourselves in the industry.What You’ll Do:

Design, develop and implement large-scale distributed systems with large volumes of data focusing on scalability, latency, and fault tolerance.

Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices in software engineering. Ensure that all code is well-documented and undergoes rigorous peer review.

Debug critical hard-to-solve production issues across services and tech stack

Advocate for and implement software engineering best practices, including version control, code reviews, unit testing, and continuous integration continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and other engineering teams to understand data needs and develop robust solutions that meet business objectives.

Be a guide to understanding systems, and their dependencies, and have the ability to forecast and mitigate challenges effectively.

Be an authority in design principles, SOA, and developing applications of scale in the cloud while maintaining knowledge of industry innovations, trends, and practices.

Continuously measure and optimize the performance, effectiveness, and uptime of services.

Display excellent verbal and written communication and be able to convey dissenting opinions constructively, particularly in written communications.

What You’ll Need:

Bachelor's degree (Computer Science or similar technical field of study preferred), or equivalent work experience

4+ years of experience developing services in Java using common frameworks

Strong analytical abilities and a strong intellectual curiosity

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Strong time management and organization skills

Ability to balance multiple priorities at a given time

Team-oriented and have a customer first approach

Determined, able to work independently or within a team setting

Bonus:

Strong engineering background building products that are eCommerce scale

Experience with AWS Cloud

Experience in Supply Chain and/or exposure with Operational Research space

Experience in building distributed, highly available and high-performance systems
