Cares for patients as delegated by the registered nurse and completes all aspects of activities of daily living for assigned patients (refer to Delegation Competency for Unlicensed Assistive Personnel policy).
Vital Signs: reports all unusual observations or reactions of the patient to the assigned nurse or charge nurse.
Intake and Output: Collects specimens for analysis; measures and records intake/output including foley catheter.
Activities of Daily Living: Provides patients with personal care and assistance with activities of daily living.
Clinical Procedures: Performs clinical procedures independently or under direct supervision of a nurse.
Nutrition: Provides for patient’s nutritional needs including: assisting the patient with ordering room service, set up of meal tray, and feeds the patient as required.
Safety: Supports a culture of safety and carries out safety interventions for all patients.
Infection Control: Adheres to all applicable infection control policies and procedures. Clean patient equipment following the designated process.
Orientation: Assists with orientation of new emergency department technician colleagues.
Transportation: Assists in transporting patients to and from other departments, as delegated by nursing staff, utilizing principles of prevention & safety: basic principles of body mechanics, infection control and electrical safety.
Point of Care Testing: Performs point of care testing, including quality control, as well as patient testing for glucose monitoring, fecal occult blood testing Urine HCG. Communicates results to the appropriate staff and documents in the electronic health record (EHR).
Phlebotomy: Performs peripheral venipuncture with provider order under delegation of nursing staff.
Performs and prioritizes unit-based activities as assigned. These may include, but are not limited to:
Set up patient rooms: supplies, equipment, quick turnovers for admission
Assist with patient early mobility as directed by RN
Answer telephone and call bell and triage appropriately
Wound care and simple dressings ● Application of cold ice pack
Assists in administering post-mortem care
Assist with cardiac monitor application
Assists nurse in collection of routine specimens: urine, stool and sputum
Turning and repositioning as directed by RN
Maintain supply inventory needed to maintain daily operations. Stocks supplies, linen or office goods. Routinely reviews supplies to assure expiration dates are managed.
Performs BLS CPR
Application and use of the Lucas equipment
Maintains seizure precautions as directed by RN
Application and maintenance of external urinary devices
Empty drains as directed by RN (Jackson Pratt, Hemovac)
Collect blood culture and urine culture
Oral care (non-vented patients)
Performs continuous observation for ensuring environment of safety for behavioral health patients with Provider order, under nursing delegation, and documentation of patient behavior.
Maintain mandatory education requirements that include hospital wide mandatory education, emergency skills and unit-based competencies.
Performs assigned roles as part of trauma and acute stroke response teams.

Technical training as Nursing Assistant or EMT is preferred.Licensure, Certification, Registration:AHA Basic Life Support required.
