- The Lab Tech 4 - Aerosol Research Technician will perform tasks as the primary telemetry support Point of Contact (POC).
- Responsible in providing laboratory support by assisting in the performance of aerosol exposures and animal research protocols as prioritized by Aerobiology, Animal, Clinical Pathology, & Telemetry Services (AAT) Leadership.
- The contractor shall assist in the execution of scientific studies, analyze data, and maintain laboratory space and equipment.
- Independently assemble, calibrate, and test telemetry systems.
- Troubleshoot electronic and software communication issues.
- Independently perform telemetry support for animal studies in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 biocontainment laboratory environments.
- Operate/maintain telemetry systems in a validated state for use in Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) animal studies.
- Maintain a safe/secure storage and backup of all original data files.
- Maintain inventory of all telemetry system components to include hardware and software.
- Tabulate and analyze telemetry data.
- Provide results to telemetry support Significant Military Equipment (SME) for review.
- Assist in the training of study personnel on basic telemetry functions and data review.
- Assist in building 1412 Suite Supervisor by ensuring weekly/monthly equipment and safety requirements are completed/documented.
- Assist in generating/characterizing sample biological aerosols to support pathogenesis and medical countermeasure studies against biothreat agents.
- Support all technical aspects of animal protocols including (but not limited to) performing animal observations, physicals, sample collection, sample processing, and euthanasia as required.
- Perform assays to include viral and bacterial stock characterization, plating assays, ELISA, RT-PCR, microarray, and cytokine analysis.
- Perform applicable in vitro sample analysis assays.
- Perform clinical pathology evaluations (Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, & Coagulation).
- Maintain laboratory space and maintenance of equipment.
- Record/document controls of all equipment.
- Assist with SOP writing, revision, and review.
- Respond to regulatory audits and Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPAs) within the required timelines.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- This position will not have supervisory authority.
- Applicants selected will be subject to a US Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for participation in the BPRP and the CSPRP.
- Drug Screen/Background Check:
- Must be able to successfully pass a Federal background check, drug screen, and will be subjected to US Government security investigation.
- COVID:
- Cherokee Federal employees are included as covered employees in U.S. Presidential Executive Order 14042, which mandates COVID vaccines for federal contractors.
- Executive Order 14042 is currently blocked from enforcement pending court proceedings. Therefore, Cherokee Federal is halting the application of the mandate; however, if the injunction is lifted, Cherokee Federal will restore administration of the vaccine requirement.
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree (Post Bachelor's preferred) or the equivalent in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3+ years of lab experience.
- Experience with animal handling:
- Animal observations, physicals, sample collection, sample processing, and euthanasia procedures.
- Experience with animal plethysmography and aerosol exposure procedures.
- Experience with basic/advance Molecular Biology Assays:
- Plating assays, ELISA, RT-PCR, microarray, cytokine analysis, and both in vitro and in vivo assays.
- Experience with clinical assays:
- Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Coagulation, etc.
- Proficient expertise with telemetry systems and equipment.
- Expertise with SOP generation, editing, and revisions.
- Proficient knowledge of GLP – FDA 21 CFR Part 11 and Part 58 Regulations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Prior experience in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 biocontainment labs preferred.
- Work is conducted in a climate-controlled office or laboratory.
